Not the best in this series, others were better, just couldn’t keep my attention

This surprised me really pleasantly! The previous book was not amazing and I kinda let my hopes down but this book kept me interested till the end! I really liked it but also I feel like it really affected me. It had some scenes that were the most traumatic ones I have ever read. Really great job done with this book totally recommend it! Also Kenji is so so funny!!!

had me stressed out the entire time. Between Warner’s heartbreak and all the plot twists, I didn’t know whether to scream or cry. But I’m hooked, even when it hurts 🤸🏻‍♀️

i feel like the concept of this book was so good and it was crazy and i loved all of it and it should’ve been 5 stars but something about it really didn’t draw me in as the other ones did for some reason?? no other critics though it was good I just was never enticed to pick it up, besides that all was good

This is by far the best book in the series to date, and I’m slightly annoyed that it’s taken so long and so many books/ novellas to get to this point. The book has so many new insights into the characters & the reestalishments history that it constantly kept me wanting to know what was happening next! There was so much more politics in this book to give a background to why everything had happened so far which is why I think this book was so much better (not just mopey YA romance with characters who are emotionally immature) 

There were a couple of times when things just went so smoothly that I did think showed again this is a YA book (no mention of how Nazeera just easily escaped with Aaron by flying to the plane, jumping out the plane at 8,000 feet again with no problems and the engines being killed but surprise they land right where Castle and everyone are waiting) 

The story between Aaron and Ella is everything you want in a dystopian romance and I love that it’s got so many layers to it that makes you want to root for them even more. Aaron is just perfect and the birthday chapter just hits different after this book 🥺 

Adam has kind of not been mentioned in this book at all except that he’s not in the new sector with them, I’m not mad about it but have a feeling that he’s going to make a comeback

i’m quite new to audiobooks and out of the few I have read this is the first one that my face has been stuck in a smile for the last 20 minutes. This couple is everything and all I’ve ever wanted to read in a couple. I have loved them since their first interaction.

10/10 !! A lot of people have said that Ignite Me is the best book in the series but honestly this one is my favorite. Defy Me is THE ONE for me. This was what made warnette for me, that it’s always been Aaron and Ella before Warner and Juliette ever came to be and I wouldn’t trade the experience of reading this book for the first time for anything. Not to mention Kenji and Nazeera? They’ve literally been saving everyone’s asses since Day 1 and they aren’t appreciated enough. I love how the growth of everyone and how far the plot has gone. It’s so tense and the plot twists never seem to run out.

it feels like a complete different series right now but I kinda wanna know how this is going to end.
I loooove warner and I’m not a huge fan of complete chapters of these two just thinking about how much they love each other but the proposal and all was cute.
Best thing was Kenji and Aaron fighting and Kenji talking about movies. which leads me to WHY wouldn’t she write two more pages about the birthday party?????? I wanted see aaron accept the birthday wishes from everyone 🥺
I would have liked to get more insight into emmaline in this book already, the first half didn’t really explain much. And also I miss James 💔


I’m scared now of the ending because I’ve seen the terrible reviews but here we go ✊🏼

This book was AMAZING! So many crazy things were revealed... Loving the multiple povs and getting a glimpse of their past memories. And when Delalieu said that they fell in love every time, OMG my heart. So happy to see Warner growing into himself.

           my world was constantly getting rocked during this book. chapter after chapter, crazy things were being revealed. juliette was ONCE AGAIN thrown into a world of chaos & she couldn’t have handled it better. 

juliette - or ella - is the bravest person ever. i will never understand how she never breaks. first: the symposium. this girl really believed she had murdered 600 people and her mental health wasn’t destroyed. she was taken by her parents and knew that her friends + warner weren’t safe. she was being tortured and taunted by her mother but she still didn’t stop fighting. j pushed through and managed to escape with the help of emmaline, kenji, and nazeera. 

emmaline’s introduction freaked me out. the way juliette described her genuinely sent shivers down my spine. it was crazy that juliette didn’t ever back away from her! i know they’re sisters and all … but i would’ve been far too scared to even be in the same room as her. ESPECIALLY with knowing how powerful emmaline is. 

one thing i need to talk about is how quick kenji is to come to juliette’s defense. i absolutely adore their friendship and how much he cares about her. he didn’t care that his friends were saying she was dead & he didn’t let that stop him from going to look for her. kenji even questioned castle’s intentions when they were taken to the sanctuary - which definitely stood out to me. k LOVES castle & trusts him .. but i think he loves juliette more. he’s always there for her, just like juliette’s there for him <3

as for aaron & ella’s story … wow.

“you think aaron fell in love with your friend of several months, a rebel girl named juliette. you don't know. you don't know. you don't know that aaron has been in love with ella for the better part of his entire life. they've known each other since childhood.”
