This was such a an awesome story. I didn't know where it was going, the chapter titles were hilarious (and not very helpful haha), and I loved Alex to pieces. 

I am so excited to get my hands on the next book.

I actually enjoyed this book so much more than the first one. I think I got so much air inside of me from laughing too much. I just loved how Uncle Rick can casually throw the best humor every freaking time! Their adventures are so exciting and gripping at the same time. I loved how likable the whole team are. They all got different personalities and attitudes yet they complement each other very well. They are a very perfect team and I can't help thinking about the Prophecy of Seven from Heroes of Olympus, though I can't totally compare the two team with each other. 

And oh my god, I just loved the Magnus-Alex interaction so so much! I think I am the one blushing every time Magnus stares at Alex. Even though Alex seemed quite snarky for most of the time, Magnus still let himself think there's more to her than her attitude. He understood her even without knowing too much about her and that is what I loved the most. And also their banters and sarcastic comments with each other. 

I also laughed so hard because of the appearances of the following scene-stealer of this book:
> Jack the Sword of Summer, his singing ability, his funny remarks and even his attraction with his fellow magical weapon
> Otis, the depressed goat
> Heimdall, the god of selfie
> Thor, his scary pigtails and his favorite hammer Mee-Mee

I am just so excited to continue reading the final book of this trilogy. I'm anticipating more dangerous adventures and more hilarious interactions. I am also excited to see more of the team because I so loved them so much!

That was a really enjoyable read! I mean, I usually like Riordan's books, but this one definitely topped the first Magnus Chase book for me. This book seemed more distinctly Magnus to me, as opposed to feeling much like Percy by a different name. This book definitely fixed that issue.

I love the modernized nuances of the Norse gods, of course, as I've loved all the modern changes to the polytheistic worlds. But nothing so far has made me laugh quite as much as the Draugr utilizing Robert's Rules of Order before laying into the tresspassers into their grave. Here I am expecting Skyrim level monsters and they're too busy bickering over reading the minutes from the prior meetings to kill the intruding warriors.

Can I also get a hell yeah for the diversity? Alex being gender fluid, two deaf characters with multiple characters understanding and capable of speaking ASL/ESL, Amir getting some great character development, PLUS taking on more Muslim characters in the story was great. i hope we get to see more of Barry because he seemed like an excellent character. (I loved his mid-flight possession speech.) Alex being in the story and also having been homeless made for some really great awareness paragraphs regarding LGBT youths. For those that don't know or aren't fully aware of the extent of such problems, it's a great mention. (I'm kind of rooting for Alex and Magnus getting together, but that's just my personal opinion.) I also like the ways people deal with loss and how people deal with shitty family members in different ways.

I look forward to seeing how they resolve the Loki situation. Its definitely going to take a book or two to figure out how to deal with how this book ends.

Rick Riordan's books are becoming potboilers, and I'm definitely not enjoying them as much I used to. The plots all have the same general structure. The 'twists' aren't exciting; they are anticipated and highly predictable. I don't think I was ever surprised in this book. They're still fun to read, but there isn't anything remarkable or unique anymore.

I listened to this on audiobook and I've decided that it's one of the best ways to enjoy Rick Riordan's writing. The jokes come across even better on audio than on the page. Also, god bless this man for his diverse cast of characters.

And Rick Riordan does it again with another amazing book. Honestly. Same old formula, you know it's a Rick Riordan book, but with a different cast of characters that spices it up every time. Pacing is great as always and I devour these books like I devour a full plate of pasta when I haven't eaten all day. Which sucks, because I'd love to savour them. 

I already love Magnus as a person (he's a sarcastic, harsh guy, but he also has his gentle moments), and I love Samirah and Blitz and Hearthstone. I love their dynamic and their adventuring, and that was the first hundred or so pages of the book - good ol' times like usual. But there's a new character, and this new character - I'm floored. (view spoiler)[Alex Fierro saved 2016. Alex is great - angry and vindictive and sarcastic and jokey and definitely a tough one and Magnus has a cruuuuuuush, which is hilarious and adorable. And also hilarious because Malec from TMI (Magnus and Alec). Their dynamic really works. 

You know, every time I think, wow, I can't like Rick Riordan any more, and then he does something that makes my jaw drop. Characters lured me into the PJO series, but he's become really, REALLY good with diversity. When Nico came out as gay and then got a POV - holy shit. When Apollo turned out to be unashamedly and unapollogetically (haha) (i actually dont know how to spell that) bisexual - holy shit. A Muslim girl and a deaf character - holy shit. And then Alex Fierro's genderfluid, which had me literally crying on the train because holy shit there is a genderfluid transgender character in a popular children's book and thousands of kids are going to read this and trans kids are going to read this and non-binary kids are going to read this and they're not going to feel alone. She/he is only the second non-binary character in popular literature I've read, EVER, and well-written too - just enough explanation to raise awareness (and even note that genderfluidity isn't the only shade of non-binary gender) but Alex's story is ultimately not about being genderfluid - it's about quests and monsters and gods, like all the other characters, and Alex's genderfluidity is only a part of him/her, just like Sam's religion, or the heritages of the POC in HOO. 

Like: writers have to make conscious choices if they want to reflect the diversity of the world around them. Rick Riordan's world feels real, like these are all people you'll meet in a big American city (or a Norse afterlife that emulates a big American city). You look around the real world and there's LGBT people, there's people of color, there's deaf people and people of different religions and classes. And it doesn't feel like a media world, one where we've been taught to look around and see white, straight, abled, cis people and consider that normal. It feels like the real world, even though this is wholly fantasy. And I'm so glad his books, past the original series, keep reflecting that. 

Some little things:
 - Shoutout to Rick Riordan for his 2016 books having a 2 for 2 on a) bi/pan narrators (Magnus, the lil shit, gets speechless at the sight of Alex when he's a boy), and Mpreg references. Good job, Rick Riordan. Explicit mpreg. (I'm being sarcastic with the mpreg but not the bi/pan characters god dAMN Rick your books are queer af)
 - "Maggie" I love you Alex, I really do
 - Sam and Amir. Oh my god they're so cute and I really love how Sam and Amir stay faithful to their religion. I'm glad Rick elaborated on that. 
 - HEARTH. Dear sweet Jesus Christ Hearthstone my poor elf oh my god. I want to wrap him up in a blanket and hug him for a long long time because he's been through so much. Rick Riordan has never really shied away from the topic of abusive parents, but the last few books I just want to wrap the kids up and tell them that I'LL BE YOUR PARENT NOW. 
- Oh, shit. Loki. Loki, Loki, Loki. Does that last scene remind anyone else of the fucking Mark of Athena cliffhanger? Because no, not as bad, but Jesus Fucking Christ How Can I Wait Until Next Year
- An atheist and a Muslim walk into a pagan afterlife...
- Why did you have to bring up how Alex reminded you of your mom you clearly have a crush on her god damn it Magnus don't go all Freud on us fucking hell you already got turned on by your AUNT in the last book can we chill it with the incest Rick
- it ain't a rick riordan book without mythological incest and/or bestiality! 

The only bone to I have to pick with this entire book is this: leave Percy alone holy shit let the poor boy finish high school let the poor boy have a BREAK. (hide spoiler)]

This book was so much fun to read! I think more so than the first one, because now I'm quite familiar with the world and I can easily enjoy the storyline without having to struggle with the Norse mythology terms. Whenever I had free time, I'm always eager to pick this book up and continue on with the adventure of Magnus and his friends. Still loving the humor in this book, as always, and I think the pacing of the story is really well done. It's absolutely a page-turner that kept me on the edge of my seat!

Just like the previous book, The Hammer of Thor is also narrated by the main character, Magnus Chase as he traveled through the Nine Worlds to accomplish his quest. This time around, Magnus and his friends are in search of Thor's mighty weapon, Mjölnir, that went missing since the first book. I'm loving the character development that occured in this book and also a new character that's introduced in this one. Just like I mentioned in my review for The Sword of Summer, I'm eager to know Hearth's past that made him bitter. We definitely got that in this book as Magnus accompanied Hearth to go back to his hometown, Alfheim—the home of the light elves. In Alfheim, we are introduced to Hearth's father, Mr. Alderman, a wicked man who collects rare and valuable artifacts. The way he treated Hearth and his housestaff, Inge, is really sickening. We will probably meet him again in the next book but hopefully by then he regained his consciousness. 🙏 On a lighter note, Inge has a crush on Hearth—which is like the cutest thing ever 💖.

"The thing about gods is, you can’t really slap them when they’re acting stupid.They’ll just slap you back and kill you."Another new character introduced in this book is a new einherji, Alex Fierro—a shape-shifting child of Loki. Aside from that, Alex is also gender-fluid, which made me confused because I never heard about that before, but thankfully so is Magnus 😂. Alex is a fierce and strong character who appears to be quite mysterious at first, because I don't know which side she's in (I'm calling her a 'she' because she's a female most of the time). Although she's a new character in this series, Alex actually played quite a huge role in this book. Her shape-shifting ability proves to be extremely convenient. Her relationship with Sam—her half-sister who's also a child of Loki—is really sweet, and Alex's relationship with Magnus always brings a smile to my face 😄.

As for the bad guys, Loki—the god of mischief and artifice, definitely proved himself a brilliant villain in this book. Uncle Randolph is also making another appearance in this book and Loki have him wrapped around his finger, which is really sad because Randolph just wants to have his family back. I can say that Loki is a brilliant villain because I didn't expect the outcome of his plan at the end! He meticulously planned everything and in the end Loki got what he wanted (hopefully I'm not spoiling too much). Now that Loki is a lot more dangerous than he was before, and I'm looking forward to what he's going to do in the third and final book."One thing I’d learned from being a son of Frey—I couldn’t always fight my friends’ battles. The best I could do was be there to heal their injuries."Like I said earlier, I had so much fun reading this book! It was action-packed, intense, and an all-round thrilling adventure. So many things unfolded in this book and I can't wait what more crazy obstacles Magnus and his friends have to experience to stop Loki. The best part of this book is at the end, when Annabeth met up with Magnus and said that it's time for him to meet Percy! When I read this part I literally squealed with excitement because I LOVE PERCY 💖. Even though I know he's only going to show up briefly as a cameo (not as an additional character), I'm still excited nonetheless. I've missed him so much since I last finished The Heroes of Olympus series. Anyways, I'm halfway through with the third book as I'm writing this review. I'm really curious to see how this series is going to end!

It took me so long to finish but I loved it!! 
The way Rick Riordan explains gender fluidity and pronouns makes it so easy to understand and I def love the inclusivity in the Magnus Chase saga, I'm going to start the third book right now and I'm sure it will be as good as the other two.
Not five stars for now but 4.5 at least, maybe I'll change it to 5 later because I really liked it.

Vale, me encanta este libro, me encanta Magnus y Alex y Sam y Blitz y Heart y todos los personajes, que son simplemente maravillosos y sobretodo me encanta Rick Riordan que los crea a todos.
A ver, el primero libro me mató porque era una de las primeras cosas que leía de Rick y me sorprendió mucho y me reí muchísimo. Entonces, no puedo ponerle la misma puntuación a este, que me ha encantado pero no tanto como el primero. La historia es genial, las últimas 40 páginas estaba en tensión y no podía apartar la vista del libro. Pero la última página. LA ÚLTIMA PÁGINA. No quiero hacer spoilers pero vamos,me he quedado muerta.

It's not you, it's me. I think this book is as good as the first one, I really liked the new characters and the story. The problem is I read it in parallel with project implementation and Gilmore girls rewatch so the book was low on my priority list and I just couldn't fully connect to it.
Last chapter made me thinking I need to get back to Percy Jackson books.

в остальном - типичная мифология от типичного рика риордана, отсылки к классическим скандинавским мифам, по-хорошему привычный стиль

моя любимая серия у него - всё равно пока "герои олимпа", но магнус чейз, наверное, на уровне с перси джексоном

The combination of Rick Riordan's writing and the narration had me laughing out loud in parts. Not my favorite of his, but delightful. Still really love that it is set in my city.

Also, major kudos to a YA novel that has a hero who is not a fighter, a kickass Muslim female warrior (Valkyrie), a gender fluid child of Loki, and then my favorites: the fashion conscious dwarf and deaf elf. In my eyes, these characters champion so many underrepresented traits and these traits are not weaknesses, but strengths. They do not win 'in spite' of these non-mainstream characteristics. They win, in part, because of them.
