There was a blankness in her mind. She knew something had been stolen, but she had no idea what it was.

“Don’t worry, Jacks, I would never inconvenience you by dying.”

She meant to say, For tonight, I’m yours, but all that came out was “I’m yours.”

And it struck her how intimate words could be, how they could be spoken only once, for only one person, and they would never be heard again, they would disappear like a moment, gone almost as soon as you realized they were there.

“I mean ... it’s just one night,” he said softly. “In the morning, you can forget it. You can go back to pretending you don’t like me, and I can pretend that I don’t care. But for tonight, let me pretend you’re mine.”

“I suppose it’s going to heal on its own?” 

His mouth twitched up at the corner. “Only because I wanted to take off your clothes.”

The Ballad of Never After is another smash-hit by Stephenie Garber. Another book of hers that has left me with the “wait, wtf” feeling, as well as the immediate desire to keep reading (is it 2023 yet??)

Jacks and Evangeline are by far my favorite ship of 2022, and it was so fun watching them try to find the four stones. This book, like all works by Garber, is full of twists and turns. It continually pulled at my heart and had me rooting for my girl Evangeline. 

I’m so ready for the next book in this series to come out because I need to know what happens next with my favorite precious babies.

I’m so mad at myself that I pick up this trilogy. Probably trilogy. At least I hope so, because right now I have to wait for the third book and the cliffhanger in this book- I hate my life choices sometimes. The second book was much better than the first one because, because one, there was more Jacks and two, the plot was more interesting. I hope our girl Evangeline will finally get some break and her happy end in the third book, because she really deserves it.

I finished this book on one of my breaks at work, and when I read that one scene near the ending I literally yelled "you've got to be kidding me" and a lady on her smoke break looked at me and I apologized for my outburst. I thought that was the end of the book but there were a few additional chapters. BUT THEN THEN IT ENDED THE WAY IT DID????? I was livid. Then I went to buy the last book after work :)

As much as I want to hate this book, I can't. The title made it clear that it's a ballad of never after, I've no right to be angry. Even though tragic, it was one of most beautiful and dark fairytale.

Y’all the absolute CHOKEHOLD this book had on me these past two days! No thoughts, just Jacks. 

The first book was great but this was on a whole other level. The angst! The tension! Not to mention all the twists and turns. I truly had no idea where we were headed but it was a blast getting there. The ending?! I need the last book immediately. The fact that I have to wait a month should be a crime.

Truly can’t wait for the conclusion! Now I just have to figure out how to speed up time.
