I said something like "Sing it so hard, so loud, that you can't control where your voice goes. Let your voice crack. Lose control of it." I gave her permission to sound bad. Think of how you sing when you're singing to the radio at full volume. When you can't hear yourself, you're not afraid to really belt it out because you won't have to cringe when your voice breaks or you veer off-key. Daisy needed that kind of freedom. That takes a crapload of confidence. And Daisy didn't qctually have confidence. She was always good. Confidence is being okay being good. I said, "If you sing this song in a way where you sound good the entire time, you've lost."

I think people that are too similar... they don't mix well. I used to think soul mates were two of the same. I used to think I was supposed to look for somebody that was just like me.

I don't believe in soul mates anymore and I'm not looking for anything. But if I did believe in them, I'd believe your soul mate was somebody who had all the things you didn't, that needed all the things you had. Not somebody who's suffering from the same stuff you are.

People say that life keeps moving, but they don't mention that it does stop sometimes, just for you. Just for you and your girl. The world stops spinning and just lets you two lie there. Feels like it, anyway. Sometimes. If you're lucky.

When you're in a situation like that, when you have a man looming over you, it's as if every decision you made lead to that moment—alone with a man you don't trust—flashes before your eyes. Something tells me men don't do that same thing. When they are standing there, threatening a woman, I doubt they count every wrong step they made to become the asshole they are. But they should.

 You have to have one person in your life that you know would never do anything to steer you wrong. They may disagree with you. They could even break your heart, from time to time. But you have to have one person, at least, who you know will always tell you the truth.

 You need one person who, when the shit hits the fan, grabs your stuff. throws it in a suitcase, and gets you away from the Italian prince.

 Art doesn't owe anything to anyone. Songs are about how it felt, not the facts. Self-expression is about what it feels to live, not whether you had the right to claim any emotion at any time. Did I have a right to be mad at him? Did he do anything wrong? Who cares! Who cares? I hurt. So I wrote about it.

History is what you did, not what you almost did, not what you thought about doing. And I was proud of what I did.

That's how it was back then. I was just supposed to be the inspiration for some man's great idea. 

That's why I started writing my own stuff.

High school was not easy for me. I knew that to get an A, you had to do what you were told. But I also knew that a lot of what we were being told was bullshit. I remember one time I was assigned an essay on how Columbus discovered America and so I wrote a paper about how Columbus did not discover America. Because he didn't. But then I got an F.

 So in the middle of the night I was always looking for quiet things to do. My mom had these romance novels hanging around so I would read those. It would be two in the morning and my parents would be having a party downstairs and I'd be sitting on my bed with my lamp on, reading Doctor Zhivago or Peyton Place. 

And then it just became habit. I would read anything that was around. I wasn't picky. Thrillers, detective novels, sci-fi. 

Around the time I moved in with Simone, I found a box of history biographies on the side of the road one day, up in Beachwood Canyon. I tore through those in no time.

If the rest of the world was silver, Daisy was gold.

BILLY: I'm not saying that i didn't care. I cared a lot. I'm saying that if you really love someone, sometimes the things they need may hurt you, and some people are worth hurting for.

I had hurt Camila. God knows i had.But loving somebody isn't perfection and good times and laughing and making love. It feels like throwing yourself to sea. Or, maybe not that. Maybe it's more like throwing someone you love out to sea and then praying they float on their own, knwoing they might well drown and you'll have to watch.

DAISY: I left the band because Camila Dunne asked me to. And it was the very best thing I've ever done. It is how i saved myself. Because your mother saved me 

I may not have known your mother very well.

But I promised you I loved her very much.

And I was so very sorry to hear she passed away.

DAISY: Camila looked at me for a moment and then she said something that changed my life. She said, "Don't count yourself out this early, Daisy. You're all sorts of things you don't even know yet." That really stuck with me.

DAISY: You can justify anything. If you're narcissistic enough to believe that the universe conspires for and against you - which we all are, deep down - then you can convince yourself you're getting signs about anything and everything.

DAISY: I'll tell you: If a friend lied to me the way I lie to myself, I'd say, "You're a shitty friend."

DAISY: Here's a lesson for everybody, take it from me: Handsome men that tell you what you want to hear are almost always liars.

DAISY: It seemed like there wasn't anything about me, any truth that i could tell him, that he wouldn't accept. Acceptance is a powerful drug. And I should know because I've done 'em all.

WARREN: You know when she had me? When i knew that song was fucking great? When she said, "When you think of me, I hope it ruins rock 'n' roll."

GRAHAM: Women will crush you, you know? I suppose everybody is hurting everybody, but women always seem to get back up, dou ever notice that? Women are always still standing.

i love the portrayal of addiction sm in this book.

DAISY: I knew getting high wasn't a long-term solution. But god, it's so easy. It's just so easy.

But of course, it's not easy at all, either. Because one minute you're just trying to nurse a wound. And the next, you're deperately trying to hide the fact that you're now a jury-rigged, taped-up, shortcuttet mess of a person and the wound you were nursing has become an abscess.

But I was skinny and pretty so who cared, right?

Amazing storytelling...the documentary style of writing is incredible...it really hurts me as person because of certain things...being too real...am i camila?do i wanna be a daisy?or i am the worst of both?

i didn't think i loved the characters as much as i did but the little paragraphs about their lives after the band absolutely undid me. i was crying for an hour after this book because of what happened. this was so good and i am glad i read it so i could watch the tv show! so glad to have been immersed in this world for a little bit! i am obsessed!

           I loved this book. More than the seven husbands of evelyn hugo. 
I love Billy and Camila’s relationship. I loved Karen and Graham’s. 
Even though Daisy would really get on my nerves most of the time, she was such a complicated but impossible not to fall in love character. She just wanted to find herself and to be loved. And she tried. I loved the way she and Billy were meant for each other, but sometimes you just are not able to get the person you love because that’s life. 
Camila was a strong woman and she loved Billy and he loved her. And even though Billy and Daisy might have been made for each other, maybe Camila was the one for him. Confusing I know! You just have to read it! 
It was great to read the book the way it’s written. Earring all the sides, how people reacted to what was happening. Eddie being a little bit of a jerk (I really really disliked him).
In the end this book is more than just a romance, this book is about friendship, family and a band. It’s about rock ‘n’ roll!

i read this book after my completion of One True Loves, my first of TJR's read that i REALLY LOVE HOW THAT BOOK MADE ME FEEL, and i'm fully aware i'm bringing this weight full of excitement and expectation of my second read of hers. and yes, i guess i get a little slight of disappointments of this book (plus how i really anticipated it to be big as how the hype's out there). but, nonetheless, it's taylor jenkins reid, everybody. those slights of my disappointments wasn't even cover a blink of my wide-awestruckness reading her masterpiece. as always, tjr.

THE AUDIOBOOK. how could i forgot credited them. the audiobook was a big treasure, a big help, a big new experience i couldn't set aside while reading this book. the audiobook helps me to feel the emotion each of the character, to get me involved in the events they're telling, to get really projecting them right inside my head how they were feeling, how they truly feel, each slight of emotion within their tone, their deep breath, sigh while they spoke. it felt something is missing when i take a break from listening to it for a while. bcs it IS THAT GOOD. you guys need to experience the same way. you couldn't miss it just like that (╥╯﹏╰╥)ง

i would definitely recommend the audiobook for this, don't think would have finished it otherwise. 
the different POVs can be a bit confusing but the different narrators made it easier to follow along.
just and ok book but a great audio book.

no sé si le voy a hacer reseña, pero lo único que tengo para decir por ahora es que POR FAVOR alguien saque de las manos de tjr las expresiones she said y he said porque no tiene sentido la cantidad de oraciones CONSECUTIVAS que comienzan igual. (sí, como podrán deducir no me gustó el formato entrevista. i have spoken).

Fazia tempo que eu não lia um livro tão rápido na minha vida! E isso aconteceu por vários motivos: precisava desesperadamente de uma distração na minha vida, a história é encantadora e a escrita muito boa. O formato de entrevista faz tudo fluir muito rapidamente, até as partes sem grandes acontecimentos, sem perder a profundidade e sem tirar o interesse do leitor. Taylor acertou em cheio mais uma vez, mas não foi nem de perto tão bom quanto Evelyn Hugo na minha opinião. Não pela história não ser tão interessante quanto (inclusive acho que a questão de músicas, turnês, drogas seja até mais interessante de ler do que o que encontramos com Evelyn), mas porque não achei que os personagens me cativaram da mesma maneira. Amei Daisy mas não me importei tanto assim com ela, ou qualquer outro personagem. Gostei muito da história e queria saber como ia terminar mas não me apeguei a ninguém. Talvez pelo livro ser mais curto? Ou por ser formato de entrevista? Não sei ao certo.
A questão é: amei Daisy, achei Billy esquisito, Camila sensacional porem bem trouxa, Karen incrível amei, e o resto eu fiquei confundindo os nomes até o final sem saber quem era quem.
Mas amei!!!! Precisava de uma distração e essa foi maravilhosa, que SABOR! Quero ler Malibu imediatamente porém sem dinheiro no momento.

Ouvi o audiobook e dessa vez e posso dizer que foi a melhor experiência de audiobook que já vivenciei. Cada personagem tem um ator diferente. Parece realmente que tudo isso aconteceu (ainda mais agora com a série e as músicas sendo lançadas).]
Essa releitura me fez perceber coisas que não vi da primeira vez. Acho que muitas pessoas na primeira vez lendo o livro podem acabar torcendo por Billy e Daisy, por que o normal e esperado de livros românticos é que seja desse jeito. Até que a gente percebe que esse não é um livro romântico. É um recorte da vida dessas personagens que são tão reais e falhos que é difícil gostar deles (principalmente o Billy).
Mas a Camila é diferente. Na minha primeira resenha chamei ela de trouxa, e hoje minha concepção mudou completamente. Ela queria uma vida para ela e as filhas dela. E conseguiu o que queria, não desistiu do futuro que ela sonhava em nenhum momento. Não sei se na pele dela eu tomaria as mesmas decisões, mas as entendo e admiro.
Enfim, incrível. Merece mais releituras.

i picked up and put this book down like 4-6 times before i actually finished it i wanted to like it so bad but maybe im getting too old for YA lol

I liked this book a lot! It was very entertaining and just like always with Taylor Jenkins Reid’s books it felt like a real biography. I kept wanting to listen to a song or look up an outfit. 
I didn’t like this book as much as Evelyn Hugo, which is my favorite book of all time, but I definitely liked it a lot!

This is a hard book to rate. I thought it was captivating, but also didn’t really go anywhere. Which I think is the point, since the entire story is an interview. Did the fact that I’d watched the TV series first ruin the enjoyment? Probably. But I still had fun reading this, and I’m still trying to convince myself not to get bangs. 

I’m not sure I’m a Taylor Jenkins Reid girl and that’s ok!
