I read the revised version of this book that Kiera Cass released this year. It is a very interesting story and take on sirens. The way that Cass made the ocean an animated character was intriguing and very well done. As far as the other characters I wish there was a little bit more character development on the other sirens. The main character explain a little bit about the other sirens stories but there was so much left unsaid. The love story was very adorable and almost first puppy love like. Which made the book overall a very light and sweet story.

I felt that the story was okay. I understand the nuance added with the whole guilt felt for the people they have to kill as an obligation. There was that whole situation going on while I was getting to know all the characters. As you're getting to know them, you're constantly distracted by the ongoing events. Therefore, you don't really get to start liking or disliking them. As far as romance goes, it's love at first sight. Due to this, it was not really my type of book, but I would recommend it if you like a quick read or like romance at first sight. I personally would have liked it if they had developed the characters more and had taken their time getting to know each other.

Meine Meinung: Mit Siren erschien endlich das neue Buch von Bestsellerautorin Kiera Cass und ich war sehr gespannt. Ich bin ein großer Fan von der Selection-Reihe und zusätzlich hat mich sehr angesprochen, dass die Thematik hinter der Geschichte die Sirenen sein sollen. Meine Erwartungen waren dadurch enorm hoch und sie konnten leider nicht voll und ganz erfüllt werden.
Zunächst einmal gefiel mir natürlich wieder der Schreibstil von Kiera Cass und der kann durchaus mit der Selection Reihe mithalten. Ihre Bücher kann man wunderbar zwischendurch lesen und nach einem anstrengenden Tag in der Uni sind sie auch super zu lesen. Hinter Siren erwartete ich eine Liebesgeschichte, wie sie schon im Klappentext ersichtlich ist und eine Menge phantastische Elemente und auch hier eine eigene Grundproblematik. Gerade die phantastische Ebene war für mich leider nicht so toll. Sie war irgendwie ersetzbar, denn alles drehte sich um die Liebesgeschichte zwischen Kahlen und Akinli und diese wäre auch ganz gut ohne die Fantasy ausgekommen. Man erfuhr zwar eine ganze Menge über die Welt der Sirenen und doch schien das alles nicht wichtig und hielt sich sehr im Hintergrund. Für mich sehr enttäuschend denn nach dem Titel und dem Klappentext erwartet man in dieser Hinsicht ein bisschen mehr.
Die Liebesgeschichte fand ich dann aber doch sehr toll. Es gab eine interessante und etwas andere Grundproblematik und auch die Figuren hatten eine Menge Charakter, Köpfchen und sehr viel Potential für Entwicklungen, das dann auch ausgeschöpft wurde. Die Geschichte war auch nicht, wie viele Liebesgeschichten sonst, sehr vorhersehbar sondern überraschte mit vielen interessanten Wendungen und so konnte ich mich nach einem schwierigen Start mit dem Buch sehr schnell in die Geschichte einfinden und war letztendlich auch sehr zufrieden mit dem Ende, das die Geschichte nahm.
Was mich sehr gestört hat, was aber keinesfalls negativ in meine Bewertung einfließen wird, das ist die Namenswahl, die Kiera Cass hier vorgenommen hat. Ich kann mir einfach nicht erklären, wieso Autoren teilweise so befremdliche Namen wählen müssen. Das ist in Siren besonders stark ausgeprägt und mich stört es wahnsinnig denn ich kann mich einfach nicht auf die Handlung konzentrieren, wenn ich ständig auf die Namen achten muss. Besonders bei Akinli verstehe ich es nicht, denn er ist, wie die meisten von uns, Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts geboren und ich habe diesen Namen wirklich noch nie gehört und weiß wirklich nicht, wer sein Kind so nennt. 
Bewertung: Siren und ich hatten einen schweren Start, obwohl mich Kiera Cass von Beginn an mi ihrem Schreibstil gefangen nehmen konnte. Leider fehlt mir eine tiefere Verankerung des Sirenen-Themas aber sobald ich mich daran gewöhnt hatte, war ich begeistert von der Liebesgeschichte, die in diesem Buch im Fokus steht. An Selection kommt Siren für mich aber leider nicht heran.

I'm a little disappointed with this book. I'm a huge fan of Kiera Cass and The Selection Series but, I found this one slightly boring. The story about the Sirens isn't bad at all, the characters are all well developed, the setting as well. But I found there weren't many high-tension scenes. It wasn't a 'page-turner' for me. I was desperate to finish it. I guess fantasy stories are not for me.

I really enjoyed the Selection series by Kiera Cass, so I was excited to jump into this one, a cool story about badass sirens!

But to be honest, I was kinda disappointed... The story wasn’t what I expected it to be and the plot felt unnatural to me. I wasn’t a big fan of this book. It wasn’t anything special.

Cada vez admiro más a Kiera Cass. Lo juro. Ya la tenía muy en alto por haber creado a Maxon Schreave, cof cof AmordeMiVida cof cof, así que esperaba mucho de este libro. Y verdaderamente no me ha decepcionado.

Además, me lo he leído en nada, superando así el bloqueo que llevaba desde hace más o menos un mes. Así que gracias Kiera Cass

Es una historia bastante fresca, que además se lee súper rápido y que, a pesar de no ser muy pomposa ni cargada de descripciones detalladas y majestuosas, sabe enamorarte e intrigarte. Además, en cierto modo es impredecible, porque siempre pensé que sabía cómo acabaría, y acabó siendo algo distinto a lo que imaginé.

Como hace pocos minutos la acabé no he asimilado todo lo que me ha hecho sentir, pero sí puedo asegurar que ha jugado un poco con mis sentimientos. Porque así como Kahlen la protagonista se la ha pasado deprimida casi todo el libro, me he sentido yo. Entiendes a la perfección cada sentimiento de cada personaje, son tan humanos que es fácil sentirlo.

Algo que me ha confundido mucho es Oceania. Que el mar sea un personaje en sí, que tenga sentimientos y que pueda establecer conexiones con los humanos es bastante interesante, y bastante original debo decir. Pero no podía evitar pensar que también era demasiado egoísta la mayor parte de veces, y me fue imposible tomarle cariño. Aunque, claro, cuando ella explica los motivos por los que es como es, creo que sentí un poco de empatía por ella, sin embargo no podía quererla. (Tal vez tenga que ver con que no me gusta el mar, así que ya estaba predispuesta, taaaal vez).

Un personaje que me ha gustado mucho y que me habría gustado ver más a lo largo del libro, es Akinli. Es optimista, siempre de buen humor y dispuesto a ayudar siempre que se lo necesite. En definitiva la autora sabe crear personajes masculinos que enamoran, aunque como he dicho, dado que Akinli tiene muy poca participación en el libro no he podido llegar a amarlo con locura(? pero sí me ha gustado mucho, hasta creo que tuve un pequeño crush con él, me gustó mucho su personalidad.

Kahlen fue un personaje que también adoré. Normalmente los personajes femeninos cuya única motivación de vida es enamorarse no me gustan mucho (me deprimen un poco, creo (?), sin embargo he entendido su perspectiva. Después de haber vivido diecinueve años como humana, y luego otros ochenta más como sirena, ya has visto y vivido muchas cosas, ya has viajado y has conocido tantas partes del mundo como te fueron posibles. Ella ya había conocido un pedacito de cada cosa (culturas, comidas, tradiciones), era justo que uno de sus siguientes sueños fueran encontrar el amor, sobre todo después de una eternidad de soledad. Porque a pesar de tener a sus hermanas y hasta a la misma Oceania, no acababa de encajar con ellas, no acababa de encontrar su lugar en el mundo. Akinli le proporcionó un hogar. Y es por eso que les perdono este amor casi instantáneo que me presentaron en el libro, porque he sentido la conexión que han tenido, y como algo de mitológico y de cuento de hadas tiene, les perdono el insta love y hasta me lo creo. 

Es un cuento muy parecido al de La Sirenita, me lo ha recordado en muchas ocasiones, pero este es un poco más adolescente, un poco menos infantil. Pero es precioso.

Las hermanas de Kahlen han sido otra cosa que he disfrutado a lo largo del libro. Realmente se siente una relación de hermandad, se pelean, se culpan y se echan en cara cosas, pero se apoyan siempre que lo necesitan y están allí para ayudarse la una a la otra, se siente el cariño que se tienen. A pesar de ser tan diferentes, y no siempre sentirse cómodas en las mismas situaciones, se tienen una devoción mutua. 

En fin, ha sido una historia que he disfrutado y adorado. Supongo que jamás voy a dejar de amar los cuentos de hadas...

While I struggled to pick up this book at times (I think it was more a reading slump than a lack of interest in the book) I did enjoy it. I loved Kierra Cass’s writing style in the Selection series so I knew I had to pick this one up and give it a shot. It was an interesting story with an adorable romance. It felt like it dragged a little at times, but then other parts felt like they flew by. I enjoyed this book and it was worth the read in my opinion.

I LOVE THIS BOOK
I had high hopes, as a big lover of the selection series but this book rose far above my expectations, and I couldn’t stop listening to it (as I listened to the audio book). Each and every one of the characters were beautiful, and I especially loved the Ocean (I can’t wait for this entire Corona thing to be over cause I think from now on swimming will be a much more magical experience😂) 
I love this book because it is both very emotional but also not too heavy to read (if you get what I mean). It was both light and cheerful and deep and emotional and had the exact right balance. If you are doubting wether or not to read this book I really would!!!

I'm sure it can easily be a favorite book for some, but there were some tropes here that just weren't for me (*cough* instalove *cough*). What I liked about this book was the relationships between all the sisters - that's what saved it for me.

I had high expectations for Kiera Cass's novels, probably because I've heard great things about her Selection Series. I liked The Siren. The plot was interesting and it portrayed how when two people are meant to be together, they will always be connected as one no matter how far apart they may be. However, I kind of lost interest in the book mid-way, which rarely happens. I didn't like how the plot went and was expecting a climax but there wasn't one? I felt like the story was rushed towards the end.

i picked the book up in a charity shop for the only reason that it was written by Kiera Cass and holy crap i loved it. the romance was so so beautiful. the forbiddenness of it and how the Ocean forced them apart and just UGH. 

i am not usually one for sea based, siren books, but honestly, this is better than To Kill A Kingdom! so if you enjoyed that book, definitely give this a read!!

Lets just put this into perspective for you guys, I read the sample and then bought this book at around 3am this morning and I then finished it at 7am this morning. Damn, that was quick. I could not put it down. It was so captivating and such a light, easy and fun read. Who doesn't want to read about sirens and then to turn it into a sad perspective on them as well? I think Cass wrote this book beautifully and I just loved that it was a stand-alone. I needed a book with a happy ending since I've been stuck on the gruesome, A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones), novels. This was much needed and I think you guys can tell how much I enjoyed this.

It was a cool concept on the whole siren/mermaid type thing. We automatically start off with our main character in the 50s where she's 19, the richest family on the ship they're on and beautiful. Her and her family start to hear this beautiful song with these beautiful voices and all of a sudden everyone is going overboard willingly, jumping to their deaths. Kahlen has the sense to plug her ears but even then that is not enough. She does, however, have enough time to see her family jumping to their deaths as well, damn. Distraught by that and a moment of distraction the voices reach her head again and she, too, jumps overboard. After coming to sense, she realizes she hasn't even lived yet, she's 19 and she wants to get married, live a life, have children etc. Well that seems to be the call for help because then she is soon pulled out of the water and given the chance for a life where she will not age, not get hurt, and stay beautiful for however long the Ocean says. As long as Kahlen feeds the Ocean that is, with humans. Shipwrecks. See where this is going? It doesn't take a genius to know what she picked, so Kahlen then turns into this beautiful Siren and rather abruptly, we get to chapter 2 where it is 80 years later. Dun Dun Dun....

So Kahlen seems to be with new and young sirens now, in the present. She's almost like there leader seeing as she's the oldest siren they know, or rather live with. It was cool how Cass tried to justify that killing people for the deemed 'evilness' of the Ocean was something good and to kill 200 is to save billions type of argument. Also that the Ocean, whenever She is mentioned in anyway, has to be capitalized. It was almost like the Ocean is a real living thing with a mind of Her own, which in this book She was. She could speak to the sirens, give them hugs and warm their hearts. The thing I found interesting though, was that Kahlen loved Her. Like really really loved Her and adored Her. I couldn't get that seeing as it was the Ocean Herself that killed Kahlen's family and forced Kahlen to live for about 80 years isolated and killing people on shipwrecks. It was weird how the sentencing went as well. Kahlen had mention it was 80 years since she was 'reborn' and still had about 20 or so to go. That's 100 years of not speaking to any human, unless it's to sing for their death, and since we're on the topic, killing loads of people for the Ocean to eat. Kahlen of course then meets a boy whom she realizes that she may love and may want to live for. The Ocean doesn't like that and in a way, is jealous? Since it seemed that She only truly loved Kahlen out of all of Her sirens, which is interesting because the Ocean knows that if this boy sticks around She will lose the only one She truly cares about.

This book was so cool and new!! I had never read anything remotely close to this type of fantasy and just the plot line in general. I really liked how different it was and it was a nice, easy and fun break from all of the other YA paranormal book series there are today. Really starting to like Kiera Cass's work now!

This book is so underrated. That’s the first, and maybe even most important thing I want to say. For as much hype, love and praise ‘The Selection series’ gets ‘The Siren’ deserves it just as much, maybe even more in my opinion!

I found the relationships between the girls and the ocean really interesting, and unique! Also the relationships between the girls themselves, and the way they found a family with one another very beautiful to read about. 

The love between Akinli and Kahlen was also well written in my eyes, in some ways it could be kinda insta-lovey, but it was also more then that in lots of ways. 

If your looking for a fall-beach vibe read I highly recommend reading The Siren!
