BENJAMIN RICHARDS' LYONS Joel, ' David' (Lyon), Benjamin, ' Joseph, ' John, ' William1 was born in Gill, Mass., July 5, 1834. He learned the trade of granite cutting with his brother John in Quincy. He was employed by Richards, Munn & Co., Chapin & Newcomb, and by Horn & Goodrich, successors to Richards, Munn & Co.; was employed about six months in work on Minot's Lighthouse. In 1861 he moved to Milton, where he was engaged for nine years with John Tolman in the ice business, living at Pinetree Brook. In 1870 he went to Boston, where he worked at his old trade of stone cutting with his brother John, and later with the sons, who succeeded him in the business, being thus engaged until 1897. He has the family weakness for music, was himself a good singer and played the fiute, concertina and jewsharp. He was married at Braintree, Mass., July 3, 1855, to Betsey Betts Turnbull, who was born at Digby, N. S., April 27, 1836, daughter of Robert and Clarissa (Betts) Turnbull, of Digby, N. S. She died at Milton, Mass., Feb. 19, 1900. The Turnbull family was originally from Jedburgh, Scotland; the Betts from England. Children of Benjamin Richards and Betsey Betts (Turnbull) Lyons: 2038. I.
