Je regardais vivre ma fille avec perplexité. Il me semblait que notre silence devenait trop sombre, compliqué, pénible et dangereux. Alors j'ai proposé un duel. Nous avons choisi nos armes : le palier, le crayon - un affrontement muet, mais plein de bruit. Ce que nous n'arrivions pas à nous dire à voix haute est sorti plus facilement sur la feuille en nous servant de l'humour comme garde-fou. Pas une suite de petits événements, de querelles sans grande continuité, sans véritable logique ni raison se déroule le drame du couple mère-fille. Peut-être avons-nous appris par ce jeu d'écriture à vivre notre amour ? S.M. Je me suis toujours réfugiée dans le silence ; cachée sous le voile du secret, je peux me replier sur moi-même pour vivre toute seule mes histoires de petite fille qui refuse de grandir, qui voit avec angoisse approcher d'année en année le cap symbolique des dix-huit ans. Mais vient le moment où le voile se déchire, où le mystère se dissipe : le moment d'ouvrir les yeux et de voir. Voir qu'il y a les Autres et que parmi eux, il y en a Une qui me regarde grandir et à qui ma quête de solitude fait mal. Et comme je ne peux utiliser cette parole orale " vivante " qui en dit trop et pas assez pour montrer l'amour que je porte à ma mère, un amour qui vit grâce aux disputes et aux rapprochements, à un duel continuel et continué, j'ai tenté de l'exprimer par l'écrit en laissant agir les mots sur le papier magique. Through constant exposure to adult input in interaction, children’s language gradually develops into rich linguistic constructions containing multiple cross-modal elements subtly used together for communicative functions. Sensorimotor schemas provide the "grounding" of language in experience and lead to children’s access to the symbolic function. With the emergence of vocal or signed productions, gestures do not disappear but remain functional and diversify in form and function as children become skilled adult multimodal conversationalists. This volume examines the role of gesture over the human lifespan in its complex interaction with speech and sign. Gesture is explored in the different stages before, during, and after language has fully developed and a special focus is placed on the role of gesture in language learning and cognitive development. Specific chapters are devoted to the use of gesture in atypical populations.
