Global Changes - Local Stages investigates the relationships between what happened the last twenty years on the ‘world stage’ and how theatre life developed on the local level. The subject has been approached from three different angles, each covered by one part of the book: “The Effects of Social Changes on Theatre Fields”, “Values in Theatre Politics” and “Localization of Theatrical Values”. The group of authors tries to find the links between these three areas. The book profits from the fact that the authors come from two sides of the former ‘Wall’. Twenty years after its fall, the transitional processes in countries of the former ‘Eastern Bloc’ can be compared, not only mutually, but also with the changes in the Western part of Europe. Rund 3'700 Artikel dokumentieren das Theaterschaffen auf dem Gebiet der heutigen Schweiz in Geschichte und Gegenwart. Dem Lexikon liegt ein weiter Theaterbegriff zugrunde, der alle Sparten und Theaterformen umfasst. Rund 2'400 Artikel betreffen das Sprechtheater, über 700 das Musiktheater, über 400 das Tanztheater. Personenartikel stellen mit fast 3'000 Artikeln das Gros der Einträge; über 500 Beiträge widmen sich Theatern oder Gruppen. Sachartikel erläutern unter anderem wichtige theatrale Ereignisse; Artikel zu Institutionen und Verbänden ergänzen das Gesamtbild. 800 Abbildungen illustrieren das viersprachige, dreibändige Werk. 70% der Beiträge wurden in deutscher, 20% in französischer, 6% in italienischer und 2% in rätoromanischer Sprache verfasst.
