The Russian Revolution of October 1917 was an event of global significance. Despite this fact, public attention and even research mostly focused on Russia and the other states that became part of USSR for many decades. The impact of these dramatic events on other parts of the world was neglected or not systematically explored until recently. And in analyzing the events, political history still dominates the field. This volume, which is largely based on papers presented at the third annual conference of the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies, adds to this image some valuable perspectives by exploring the culture as well as the political and cultural legacy of the Russian Revolution. Three focal points are taken here: the revolution’s rhetoric and performance, its religious semantics, and its impact on Asia.

Coinbase's Nasdaq Listing as a Caesura. Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of a Major US Cryptocurrency Exchange

Master's Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,0, , language: English, abstract: This thesis is intended to contribute to three goals: analyse Coinbase, derive recommendations for the cryptocurrency exchange’s management, potential investors, and other cryptoeconomy participants, and create a better understanding of the crypto-industry and an enhanced acceptance of cryptocurrencies. For these purposes, Coinbase was used as a single case study and analysed qualitatively and quantitatively. A Five C’s analysis was applied in the qualitative part, complemented by SWOT and PESTLE analyses and Porter’s Five Forces. The quantitative analysis, in turn, consisted of eleven key ratios that were compared to Nasdaq’s and Intercontinental Exchange’s ratios. Coinbase’s Nasdaq listing is a caesura for the cryptoeconomy since it is the first listing of a major cryptocurrency exchange in the USA. Coinbase’s opening share price exceeds the reference price by more than 50%, resulting in Coinbase’s valuation to top the aggregated value of the two well-established, traditional exchanges Intercontinental Exchange and Nasdaq. Given this listing’s significance and size under consideration of Coinbase’s relatively short existence and small revenue size, the question emerges whether the valuation is caused by Coinbase’s business model or the cryptocurrency hype.

Ferner wird die Forschungsfrage „Welche Einflussfaktoren bei der Wechselkursbildung gibt es und wie sind die Einflussfaktoren zu evaluieren?“ beantwortet. Um diese Fragestellung allumfassend zu klären, werden zunächst der Devisenmarkt, dessen Teilnehmer und deren Eingriffsmöglichkeiten dargestellt. Anschließend wird auf die Bildung des Wechselkurses eingegangen. Hierbei werden klassische Ansätze zur Preisbildung sowie Einflussmöglichkeiten von Zentralbanken, der Außenhandel und Spekulationen näher betrachtet. Abschließend werden die einzelnen Einflussfaktoren evaluiert. Inhaltlich wird sich in dieser Arbeit auf die klassischen Ansätze zur Wechselkursbildung sowie die Einflussfaktoren Zentralbank, Außenhandel und Spekulation beschränkt. The foreign exchange market is a large and important decentralised financial market, which is being brought to the fore due to the current political situation of resurgent protectionism. Banks account for the bulk of daily turnover, while central banks intervene primarily to stabilise and to protect their goals. The writer delineated the participants of the foreign exchange market and presented the main used instruments. Furthermore, the author outlined the classical theories of the purchasing power parity theory and interest rate theory. Following, he presented the possibilities of a central bank to influence the rate of exchange, which are the decision on the foreign exchange rate regime, the setting of reference rates, money supply management, and currency market interventions. Subsequently, the writer delineated the impact of foreign trade and speculations on the exchange price. Finally, the author evaluated the importance of the named factors and came to the conclusion that it is not possible to look at the impact of the named factors individually, but the central banks in particular have a great influence on the exchange rate.
