The Little Prince, first published in 1943, is a novella, the most famous work of French aristocrat, writer, poet, and pioneering aviator Antoine de Saint-Exup�ry (1900-1944).The novella is one of the most-translated books in the world and was voted the best book of the 20th century in France. La historia empieza cuando el autor describe un dibujo que hizo cuando era niño de una boa constrictor que se traga un elefante, después de haber visto un libro sobre la selva virgen, en el cual había un dibujo de éste increíble animal.Muy contento con su elefante tragado por una serpiente, enseña su dibujo a varias personas mayores, preguntando si les asusta el dibujo, a lo que los mayores responden: "¿Por qué debería dar miedo un sombrero?Disgustado por la falta de imaginación de los adultos, decide cambiar de oficio, ya no será pintor, será piloto de avioneta. Así, vive sólo, pilotando sin nadie con quien poder hablar de verdad durante años, hasta que un día tiene una avería en el desierto del Sahara. Pasa la primera noche durmiendo en la arena, y cuando las primeras luces del alba iluminan el día, oye una voz muy especial que le dice "por favor, dibújame una oveja". Con sorpresa, se levanta de un salto y ve ante si a un principito que con insistencia, pero con calma le pide que le dibuje una oveja. Le dibuja varias ovejas, pero todas son rechazadas por el joven principito, también le dibuja el elefante comido por la serpiente, a lo que éste responde que no quiere ni elefantes ni serpientes que quiere una oveja. Se da cuenta que el principito ha reconocido el dibujo y decide dibujarle una caja con agujeros y la oveja dentro. "Esto es exactamente lo que quería" le dice. Y así es como el piloto conoce al principito del cuento.
