Arne Jysch ("Wave and Smile") setzt nicht nur einen spannenden, erfolgreichen Krimi um, sondern zeichnet im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes ein genaues Bild des Berlins der Zwanzigerjahre, des Glamours und der Modernität der Frauen, der Armut und politische Spannungen in der Weimarer Republik und nicht zuletzt der Kriminalität und der Entwicklung der moderen Polizeiarbeit. Für letzteres war in der Realität wie im Roman der legendäre Ernst Gennat, genannt Buddha, verantwortlich. Jysch recherchiert wie immer sehr genau und konnte dabei auch auf das Material und die Kontakte des Autors Volker Kutscher zurückgreifen.
