This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Database Systems for Advanced Applications, DASFAA 2005, held in Beijing, China in April 2005. The Third International Symposium on Large Spatial Databases (SSD '93) was held at the National University of Singapore in June 1993. The previous meetings of the series were at Sanata Barbara (1989) and Zurich (1991). The meetings are planned as a forum for researchers and practitioners specializing in database theory for and advanced applications of Spatial Information Systems. This volume constitutes the proceedings of the symposium. It contains 25 selected papersand three keynotes papers: "Spatial data management in database systems: research directions" (W. Kim), "From extensible databases to interoperability between multiple databases and GIS applications" (H.-J. Schek), and "The SEQUOIA 2000 project" (M. Stonebraker). The selectedpapers are collected into sections on: data modeling, spatial indexing, indexing mechanisms, handling of raster and vector data, spatial database systems, topology, storage management, query retrieval,knowledge engineering in SDS, and 3-dimensional data handling.

The two-volume set LNCS 7044 and 7045 constitutes the refereed proceedings of three confederated international conferences: Cooperative Information Systems (CoopIS 2011), Distributed Objects and Applications - Secure Virtual Infrastructures (DOA-SVI 2011), and Ontologies, DataBases and Applications of SEmantics (ODBASE 2011) held as part of OTM 2011 in October 2011 in Hersonissos on the island of Crete, Greece. The 55 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 141 submissions. The 28 papers included in the second volume constitute the proceedings of DOA-SVI 2011 with 15 full papers organized in topical sections on performance measurement and optimization, instrumentation, monitoring, and provisioning, quality of service, security and privacy, and models and methods, and ODBASE 2011 with 9 full papers organized in topical sections on acquisition of semantic information, use of semantic information, and reuse of semantic information and 4 short papers.

Peer-to-peer (P2P) technology, or peer computing, is a paradigm that is viewed as a potential technology for redesigning distributed architectures and, consequently, distributed processing. Yet the scale and dynamism that characterize P2P systems demand that we reexamine traditional distributed technologies. A paradigm shift that includes self-reorganization, adaptation and resilience is called for. On the other hand, the increased computational power of such networks opens up completely new applications, such as in digital content sharing, scientific computation, gaming, or collaborative work environments. In this book, Vu, Lupu and Ooi present the technical challenges offered by P2P systems, and the means that have been proposed to address them.
