This publication explores 400 years of portrait drawings from live models. Forty-four portraits have been chosen from the collection of Paris' École des Beaux-Arts based on criteria such as the social class and profession of the model, male and female gestures, caricature and frontal gaze. The goal of this project is to explore the notion of drawn portraiture and to provide alternative readings of this genre of art-making within a contemporary context. The selection of works is extensive, ranging from never-before-exhibited drawings by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, Jacques-Louis David and Charles Garnier, to the work of modern and contemporary masters Henri Matisse and Georg Baselitz, to portraits by recent graduates of the École des Beaux-Arts.

Ethereal sculptures and installations meditating on our sensory experiences Japanese artist Kohei Nawa (born 1975) explores scientific and digital phenomena, focusing on the perceptual possibilities of his practice, which centers ethereality and sensory effects. This survey presents a selection of Nawa's new and recent works spanning sculpture, painting and mixed-media installation.

This publication accompanies the first major museum exhibition in the world to focus on the visualization and drawing practices of master chef Ferran Adria. His complex body of work positions the drawing medium as both a philosophical tool--used to organize and convey knowledge, meaning and signification--as well as a physical object--used to synthesize over twenty years of innovation within the kitchen. Emphasizing the role of drawing in Adria's quest to understand creativity, the book features an interview between Ferran Adria and Brett Littman, and also includes a reprint of the artist Richard Hamilton's essay about the relationship of food to contemporary art and Adria's participation in Documenta 12 that first appeared in "Food for Thought: Thought for Food" (2009).

"Lebbeus Woods, Architect" brings together drawings from the past 40 years by one of the most influential designers working in architecture. Beyond architects, Woods (1940-2012) has been hailed by designers, filmmakers, writers and artists as a significant voice in recent history; his works resonate across many disciplines for their conceptual depth, imaginative breadth and ethical potency. Woods worked cyclically, returning often to themes of architecture's ability to transform, resist and free the collective and the individual. As an architect whose work lies almost solely in the realm of the proposed and the unbuilt, his contributions to the field opened up new avenues for exploring and inscribing space. The publication centers on transformation as a recurring theme. The organization of the images of works is thematic rather than chronological.

This publication accompanies the first U.S. museum exhibition of a selection of paintings by the Argentinean artist Guillermo Kuitca, made from 2005 to the present. Since 1994, Kuitca has taken failed and discarded canvases, stretched them over an abandoned table from his parents' garden, and then spent periods of time ranging from three to six months creating intentional and accidental doodles, drawings and recordings on their surfaces. The" Diarios," as the artist calls them, are the most transparently personal works in his oeuvre, as they gather residue like phone numbers, titles of paintings, email addresses, blank spots where books sat, lists and collaged elements that record the ebb and flow of life inside and outside the studio. This volume includes full-color plates and large-scale details of the 18 works in the exhibition, an introduction by curator Brett Littman and a specially commissioned essay by acclaimed German author Daniel Kehlmann.
