Das Jahrbuch Exilforschung 2023 widmet sich der Vermittlung von Exil- und Migrationserfahrung in Kinder- und Jugendmedien aus kindlicher Perspektive. Zudem werden textliche und bildliche Erzählverfahren exilierter Autor*innen und Künstler*innen untersucht, die sich in unterschiedlichen Medien wie dem (illustrierten) Kinder- und Jugendbuch, dem Bilderbuch oder dem Fotobuch für junge Leser*innen betätigten. Im Schnittpunkt von Literaturwissenschaft, Kunstgeschichte und Pädagogik wird aufgezeigt, auf welche Weise sich die vielschichtigen Erfahrungen von Exil und Migration in Literatur und Kunst für Kinder und Jugendliche wiederfinden.

Begriffe wie Flucht, (Zwangs-)Migration, Vertreibung, Asyl oder Diaspora beschreiben Phänomene, die auch von der Exilforschung verhandelt werden. Der Band versammelt interdisziplinäre Beiträge, die ihren Gemeinsamkeiten, aber auch den mit ihnen aufgerufenen unterschiedlichen Konnotationen und Kontexten nachspüren. The Russian Revolution of October 1917 was an event of global significance. Despite this fact, public attention and even research mostly focused on Russia and the other states that became part of USSR for many decades. The impact of these dramatic events on other parts of the world was neglected or not systematically explored until recently. And in analyzing the events, political history still dominates the field. This volume, which is largely based on papers presented at the third annual conference of the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies, adds to this image some valuable perspectives by exploring the culture as well as the political and cultural legacy of the Russian Revolution. Three focal points are taken here: the revolution’s rhetoric and performance, its religious semantics, and its impact on Asia.

Heimat ist ein in der deutschen Sprache verorteter Begriff. Eine Übersetzung in andere Sprachen fällt schwer, ist bisweilen unmöglich. Seit dem 19. Jahrhundert hat sich „Heimat“ zu einer emotional gefassten und politisch aufgeladenen Bezeichnung entwickelt und besonders in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus als politisch instrumentalisierte Vorstellung vom kulturell und territorial Eigenen neue Brisanz erhalten. Burcu Dogramaci begibt sich auf die Suche nach der Präsenz und Bedeutung von Heimat in der Kunst seit den 1960er Jahren. In Auseinandersetzung mit Heimattheorien und literarischen Texten beleuchtet sie die vielfältigen Bedeutungen und Deutungen von künstlerisch wie fotografisch reflektierter Heimat. Sie ordnet auch die Kehr- und Gegenbilder von Heimat, die vielen künstlerischen Arbeiten eingeschrieben sind, in einen größeren kulturgeschichtlichen und zeithistorischen Zusammenhang ein. Dabei fordert die Autorin keine wehmütige Aufwertung von Heimat ein. Im Gegenteil: sie regt an, Heimat im Kontext globaler Migrationsphänomene und Entgrenzungen neu in den Blick zu nehmen.

Migration hat als Wechsel des Heimatortes Folgen für die Protagonisten, ihre Herkunfts- und Zielländer: Bewegung und Mobilität können Verlust und Gewinn bedeuten, Heimat(en), Sprachen, Geschichten verändern sich, was sich wiederum sowohl in den Werken künstlerisch arbeitender Migranten niederschlägt als auch Migration selbst zum Gegenstand der Kunst werden lässt. Exile and migration played a critical role in the diffusion and development of modernism around the globe, yet have long remained largely understudied phenomena within art historiography. Focusing on the intersections of exile, artistic practice and urban space, this volume brings together contributions by international researchers committed to revising the historiography of modern art. It pays particular attention to metropolitan areas that were settled by migrant artists in the first half of the 20th century. These arrival cities developed into hubs of artistic activities and transcultural contact zones where ideas circulated, collaborations emerged, and concepts developed. Taking six major cities as a starting point – Bombay (now Mumbai), Buenos Aires, Istanbul, London, New York, and Shanghai –the authors explore how urban topographies and landscapes were modified by exiled artists re-establishing their practices in metropolises across the world. Questioning the established canon of Western modernism, Arrival Cities investigates how the migration of artists to different urban spaces impacted their work and the historiography of art. In doing so, it aims to encourage the discussion between international scholars from different research fields, such as exile studies, art history, social history, architectural history, architecture, and urban studies.
