This IBM® Redbooks® publication is a guide about the IBM PowerAI Deep Learning solution. This book provides an introduction to artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning (DL), IBM PowerAI, and components of IBM PowerAI, deploying IBM PowerAI, guidelines for working with data and creating models, an introduction to IBM SpectrumTM Conductor Deep Learning Impact (DLI), and case scenarios. IBM PowerAI started as a package of software distributions of many of the major DL software frameworks for model training, such as TensorFlow, Caffe, Torch, Theano, and the associated libraries, such as CUDA Deep Neural Network (cuDNN). Master Class! Congratulations. After much work and a lot of winning in the lower classes of the NSCA competition world, you finally won the last punch you needed to move to Master Class! A great feeling and a great accomplishment! You always knew you were this good! The next sporting clays competition arrives, and you register as MASTER! A proud moment! You go out to the competition course and shoot your game. You have a solid day and put up a solid score, not your best performance but a good score. You wait around after the competition for the final results to be posted. The scores come out and you begin looking for your name at the top of Master Class, because hey, that is where your name has been for months! The top of the class! You look at the top of Master Class and don’t see your name. You tell yourself, “That’s Ok. Can’t expect to win the first time in Master Class.” You begin scrolling down the list of names in Master Class expecting to see your name at any moment. You keep scrolling. A quarter of the way down now, and your name still hasn’t shown up. You keep scrolling. Halfway down now and geez, there are a lot of names here. You keep scrolling. Getting close to the bottom now. Human-wildlife conflict (HWC) has classically been defined as a situation where wildlife impacts humans negatively (physically, economically, or psychologically), and where humans likewise negatively impact wildlife. However, there is growing consensus that the conflict between people about wildlife is as important as the conflict between people and wildlife. HWC not only affects the conservation of one species in a particular geographic area, but also impacts the willingness of an individual, a community, and wider society to support conservation programs in general. This book explores the complexity inherent in these situations, covering the theory, principles, and practical applications of HWC work, making it accessible and usable for conservation practitioners, as well as of interest to researchers more concerned with a theoretical approach to the subject. Through a series of case studies, the book's authors and editors tackle a wide variety of subjects relating to conflict, from the challenges of wicked problems and common pool resources, to the roles that storytelling and religion can play in conflict.
