Après Storytelling, la machine à raconter des histoires et à formater les esprits, Christian Salmon poursuit ici son enquête sur le " nouvel ordre narratif" en interrogeant la figure énigmatique de Kate Moss, mannequin célèbre dans le monde entier et nouveau mythe " trash " à l'âge d'Internet... Avec le corps maigre et mobile de Kate Moss, c'est une nouvelle figure qui apparaît au tournant du XXIe siècle, celle d'un sujet idéal, adaptable en toutes circonstances, capable de se réinventer sans cesse à travers la mise en scène et la narration de soi. Que nous dit cet idéal "mossien" ? Qu'Il nous faut devenir stratèges de nous-mêmes, des sujets aguerris capables de faire un usage intensif de nos compétences et de nos affects, dans le but de donner la meilleure image possible. Qu'il n'y a pas d'autre rapport à soi que ce travail de mise en valeur, assisté par toutes sortes d'experts du développement personnel. Que les individus n'ont plus le choix qu'entre une vie échangeable et donc stylisée, relookée et coachée, et une vie non stylisée mais qui ne vaut rien et dont personne ne veut. Dans cette logique exclusive, nous sommes tous des mannequins anglais...

Kate Moss machine

Un ouragan emporte nos sociétés hyperconnectées et hypermédiatisées. Le vent a tourné, nous l’éprouvons tous fortement. L’époque n’est plus tout à fait, ou seulement, à la manipulation et au formatage des esprits, comme encore au milieu des années 2000, quand régnait sur le discours médiatico-politique le storytelling. L’explosion du Web, l’éclosion des premiers réseaux sociaux créaient l’environnement favorable à la production et à la diffusion d’histoires. Or, de même que l’inflation ruine la confiance dans la monnaie, l’inflation des stories a érodé la confiance dans les récits. Le triomphe de l’art de raconter des histoires, mis au service des acteurs politiques, aura entraîné, de manière fulgurante, le discrédit de la parole publique. Cette défiance est aujourd’hui revendiquée par les hommes politiques eux-mêmes. Christian Salmon nous montre les logiques qui nous ont conduits à la confusion actuelle. Dans le brouhaha des réseaux et la brutalisation des échanges, la story n’est plus la clé pour se distinguer. La conquête de l’attention, comme celle du pouvoir, passe désormais par l’affrontement, la rupture, la casse des « vérités ». Désormais, viralité et rivalité vont de pair, virulence et violence, clash et guerre des récits. Fini le storytelling ? Bienvenue dans l’ère du clash ! Christian Salmon est écrivain. En 2007 il publiait Storytelling : la machine à fabriquer des histoires et à formater les esprits (La Découverte), lançant un mot qui entrerait dans le dictionnaire en 2018. Il est l’auteur de plusieurs essais littéraires. En 2017, il a publié un roman, Le Projet Blumkine.

L'Ere du clash

Le storytelling des hommes politiques et son decryptage compulsif par les medias sont devenus en quelques annees les deux mamelles d'une democratie envoutee, qui a substitue le recit a l'action, la distraction a la deliberation, le stage craft (l'art de la mise en scene) au state craft (l'art de gouverner). La politique est passee de l'age de la joute a celui de l'interactif. Du storytelling a la performance narrative, de la diversion a la devoration des attentions. L'homme d'Etat apparait de moins en moins comme une figure d'autorite, une instance productrice de normes et de plus en plus comme quelque chose a consommer, un artefact de la sous-culture de masse. C'est la le resultat d'une certaine impuissance a exercer le pouvoir, sous l'effet conjugue du neoliberalisme et des nouvelles technologies. Desacralise, profane par les medias, ridiculise par les marches, soumis a la tutelle des institutions internationales et des agences de notation, l'Etat est desormais ce trou noir qui aspire ce qu'il reste du rayonnement du politique. L'homo politicus y apparait non plus comme le porteur du changement annonce, mais comme un spectre eclaire par les flammes de sa propre devoration. La com' politique ne vise plus seulement a formater le langage, mais a capter et a plonger les esprits dans cet univers spectral dont les hommes politiques sont a la fois les performers et les victimes... En 2007, Christian Salmon, ecrivain et membre du Centre de recherches sur les arts et le langage (CNRS /EHESS), revelait les clefs du sarkozysme dans Storytelling. La machine a fabriquer des histoires (La Decouverte). En 2013, alors que Francois Hollande est au plus bas dans les sondages, il leve le voile sur la ceremonie cannibale qui definit selon lui la scene et la condition du nouveau pouvoir. Il est aussi l'auteur de Kate Moss Machine (La Decouverte, 2010) et collabore regulierement au Monde.
