The Cinepoetics book series aims at a theoretical and analytical reconceptualization of the discursivity of audiovisual images. The focus is not on the circulation of media representations but on the modes of this circulation: How do audiovisual images as figurations of media experience relate to other audiovisual images? What does it mean to describe different modes of audiovisual experience and recursivity as forms of cinematic thinking? From this perspective, the series’ volumes provide analyses of the aesthetic dimension, historical function and cultural significance of their subjects, making the poetic logic of audiovisual images accessible to an interdisciplinary audience.

By creating hybrid zones of autonomy, the 'fantastic' - a subgenre of literary works - provides alternatives to conventional understandings of the world, knowledge, or identity. The fantastic raises a number of significant questions about cultural and social developments, and challenges existing boundaries. With regard to fantastic fiction in literature and different media representations, the articles in this volume explore: crossings into other worlds, time travel, metamorphoses, hybrid creatures, and a variety of other transitions and transgressions. The book analyzes hybrid genres, inter-media adaptations, transpositions into new media, as well as various forms of crossover as exemplified in the increasing trend of generation-spanning all-age literature. Transitions and Dissolving Boundaries in the Fantastic

Fantastik verhandelt virulente kulturelle und gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen und hinterfragt bestehende Grenzziehungen. Dabei werden hybride Zonen der Autonomie entworfen, die als Gegenentwürfe zum herkömmlich vermittelten Verständnis von Welt, Wissen oder Identität gelesen werden können. Untersucht werden fantastische Erzählungen in all ihren historischen und gegenwärtigen sowie sämtlichen medialen Erscheinungsformen, vom Roman über den Film bis zum Computerspiel. Weltenwechsel, Zeitreisen, Verwandlungen, Mischwesen sowie Grenzübertritte aller Art stehen ebenso im Fokus wie Genrehybridisierung und Intermedialität.

Übergänge und Entgrenzungen in der Fantastik

Lewis Carrolls Alice-Bücher gehören zu den Klassikern der Kinderliteratur. Die Nonsense-Erzählungen wurden immer wieder neu interpretiert und vielfach für Theater, Kino und Fernsehen adaptiert; sie inspirierten Avantgarde-Bewegungen wie Dada und Surrealismus. Denn die Poetik der Alice-Bücher ist voller Widersprüche und Paradoxa, die sich in der Lektüre als ein vibrierender Zustand der Unruhe realisieren. Wenig bekannt ist aber, wie sehr das Zusammenspiel unvereinbarer ästhetischer Figurationen aus Alice in Wonderland ein Eigenleben in der Populärkultur entwickelt hat, das bis heute wirksam ist: als Alice-Maschine. Christine Lötscher macht diese Dynamik in ihren Analysen erstmals sichtbar und zeigt auf, wie die Alice-Maschine das Nicht-Verstehen, das Denken und Fühlen an der Grenze der Sinngebung zwischen Freiheit und Verstörung ästhetisch genießbar macht – besonders in Zeiten gesellschaftlicher und medialer Umbrüche.
