This is a book for low budgets and high ambition. Read it and you will learn how to put images of things onto other things. You will start by rolling up your sleeves. Your shirt will be stained anyways. At some point, you will harness the power of the sun. Go ahead, look inside. You will see that you do not need a fancy studio to print a T-shirt or a picnic blanket. There is no specialized machine required to print anything you want in any room you want. A mural, a dartboard, a deck of cards, these are all possible. In a week or a month, you will wake up to find you know words like acetate and substrate. You will be comfortable talking about ink and shopping at military supply stores. Perhaps most important of all, you will be printing images of things onto other things.

Expertise is under sustained interrogation. We see it in so-called edu-scepticism and pessimism about graduates' apparently diminishing employment prospects, challenges to the role of Higher Education institutions as arbiters of knowledge and post-truth rhetoric more broadly. This paper examines how the PhD is being discursively positioned in this context. We ask what these changing conceptions of expertise, education and work mean for how PhD-level expertise is understood. Drawing on a range of sources, from the scholarly to the wider media, we draw together five exemplar models of expertise to expose the transforming ratio between generalist, transferable skills and specialist knowledge. The evident diminution of specialisation raises numerous issues for the PhD as it is increasingly called upon to serve multiple and potentially contradictory needs: an innovation society on the one hand and the discipline on the other. Reconciling the tension between depth and breadth is an important issue for a degree whose hallmark is -- or at least has been -- depth.

In der 'Pflegelüge' begegnen wir dem Ehepaar Herbert und Herta. Herbert wird von heute auf morgen zum Pflegefall. Zusammen mit Herta durchleben wir nun alle Hindernisse bei der Organisation von Herberts Pflege. Wir stolpern zusammen mit ihr über diverse Fallstricke und lernen, was wir wann wie tun, beantragen oder wonach wir fragen müssen. Immer wieder bleiben wir allerdings auch genauso ratlos wie Herta zurück. Die Autorin klagt die Missstände in der Pflege an. Dabei verknüpft sie inhaltlich die Bereiche Politik, Management, Kostenträger und Pflegehaushalte: - Wie stellt sich die Politik dieser Versorgungsverantwortung? - Warum gehen Krankenkassen und Behörden so mit Patienten um? - Wieso werden das Pflegepersonal oder die Angehörigen allein gelassen? - Was ist eine bestmögliche Pflege und wie kann diese bezahlbar gewährleistet werden? - Was bedeuten die Pflegestufen und nach welchen Kriterien werden Pflegebedürftige eingestuft?

At a time when violence and upheaval in Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq and elsewhere have created an upsurge in the number of refugees, many look to historical examples for potential continuities and solutions. Conflict and war, political, religious and ethnic persecution have always caused the displacement of populations. Civilians are forced from their homes, fearing for their safety and future. This catalogue accompanies a temporary exhibition hosted by The Wiener Library in London from October 2016 - February 2017. The exhibition examines responses to Jewish and other refugees in Britain during the 1930s and 1940s. Built on the rich collection of refugee sources held by the Wiener Library, the exhibition explores a number of themes, including governmental policy on asylum and assistance offered by humanitarian aid organisations at the international, national and local level. 'A Bitter Road' also looks closely at the myriad experiences of Jewish refugees in Britain, including of surveillance and detention, poverty, separation and isolation. It highlights their resilience and means for coping with the hardships of integrating into a new society. Through the voices of refugees, 'A Bitter Road' explores how refugees negotiated the road to safety and attempted to rebuild their lives. This timely exhibition and catalogue raise important questions about historical examples of forced migration and Britain's response in the past - and how the past can inform our responses to refugees today.

Die Darstellung der Außenseiterfigur im Adoleszenzroman "Tschick" von Wolfgang Herrndorf

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Didaktik, Note: 1,0, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Wenn in einem literarischen Text Wörter wie „Kanakenauffanglager“, „FordSpacko“ und „endgeil“ auftauchen, dieser sowohl Jung als auch Alt begeistert und sogar als Jugendliteratur im Schulunterricht eingesetzt wird, muss es sich um ein besonderes Jugendbuch handeln. Die Rede ist von „Tschick“ von Wolfgang Herrndorf. Die Ausarbeitung dieser Arbeit gliedert sich wie folgt in einen einleitenden Teil, in welchem der pädagogische Nutzen, der immer noch umstrittene Einsatz von Jugendliteratur im Schulunterricht thematisiert wird. Daran anschließend wird die Frage aufgeworfen und analysiert, ob es sich bei „Tschick“ tatsächlich um einen Adoleszenzroman handelt und was genau einen solchen definiert. „Tschick“ greift als problemorientierter Jugendroman unterschiedliche Schwierigkeiten junger Heranwachsender auf. Da die beiden jugendlichen Protagonisten, ebenso wie viele andere Kinder, in der Realität mit der Problematik „Außenseitertum“ konfrontiert werden, liegt das Hauptaugenmerk dieser Arbeit insbesondere auf der Leitfrage, wie die Rolle des „Außenseiters“ im Adoleszenzroman verarbeitet wird. Schließlich wird am konkreten Beispiel des problemorientierten Adoleszenzromans „Tschick“ von Wolfgang Herrndorf gezeigt, wie das Problemfeld des Außenseiters literarisch umgesetzt wird. Ferner wird im letzten Schritt die gesamte Thematik umfassend beleuchtet und die Frage thematisiert, ob das Werk seinem literarischen Anspruch gerecht werden kann und als Lektüre im Kontext des Schulunterrichts für Jugendliche bedeutsam ist.
