Son of the celebrated Norwegian author Knut Faldbakken, he has published two novels, "The Cocka Hola Company" and "Macht und Rebel" under the alias Abo Rasul. Drenched with acid humor and continuously hitting below the waist, his books immediately caused a considerable stir in Norway. If, in these publications, he underlines the differences and similarities between the so-called underground and the mainstream, and between the "independent" and the "commercial" in everyday life, these subjects are also central to his art practice. Fascinated with systems of knowledge, power, order, and exchange, he shows an interest in understanding how art and artists can be active participants in these systems. Faldbakken studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Bergen as well as at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. He represented Norway in the Nordic Pavillion at the Venice Biennial in 2005, as well as showing his work in the Wrong Gallery at the Whitney Biennial, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the National Museum Oslo, the Sydney Biennial and the KW Institute for Contemporary Art Berlin, among others."

Aris Kalaizis' close-to-photography paintings inspire the imagination of the viewer and make him discover mysterious and symbolic places. With brilliant accuracy and creative fantasy he designs pictures which crowd in on the subconscious of the amazed admirer. Not surprisingly the artist needs long time to accomplish these paintings, each brushstroke is calculated, each gesture is thoroughly observed, and the colors are exactly coordinated. During working periods in Columbus, OH and New York 2005-2007 he had some group exhibitions in New York galleries.

In 1869 a small group of American financial speculators, including Jay Gould and James Fisk, sought the support of federal officials of the Grant administration in a drive to corner the gold market. The attempt failed when government gold was released for sale. The drive culminated on a Friday, when thousands were ruined--the day is popularly called Black Friday. There was great indignation against the perpetrators. Several other days of financial panic have also been occasionally referred to as Black Friday. What is Black Friday? Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, is historically one of the busiest retail shopping days of the year. It marks the official beginning to the Christmas shopping season. The "black" in the name comes from the standard accounting practice of using red ink to denote negative values (in this case, profits) and black ink to denote positive values. Black Friday is the day when retailers traditionally get back "in the black" after operating "in the red" for the previous months. "It is in the nature of the secret that it should be shared. In fact, the main function of the secret is to define the codes that regulate how and by whom it can be shared. The distinction between those who have the right to share it and those who don't, the rightfully initiated and illegitimate impostors is built into the logic of the secret. To know a secret therefore does not mean to be informed about its content - secrets have very little in common with information - rather, it implies that you have come to know what it means to know the secret. This is to say that you have to become initiated into the technique of acquiring the knowledge of the secret and each secret requires a particular technique of knowing it. In effect, the knowledge of secrets is by definition technical, pragmatic and performative. It is based on the practical proficiency in the coded languages used to share secrets, the many clandestine signs, gestures and innuendos by means of which you make it understood to others that you are in the know and test them whether they are, too. For if they can read the signs - and show you that they do by responding to your gestures with the appropriate responses - they thereby identify themselves as members of the community founded on the very practices of sharing secrets you currently perform. Mediated by Pedro Barateiro and Ricardo Valentim, Activity is a collaboratively created artists' book authored by multiple individuals. The artists engaged in ongoing discussions around the issues of collaboration, accountability, and democracy for over three years. The format of an artist's book was chosen as the vehicle for mapping their activity. Because the impetus for the project was based so much in conversations, they decided to employ 'the dialogue' itself as the 'medium,' transforming this project from a mere publication into something more. Barateiro and Valentim's withdrawal from their position as the book's authors enabled the shared authorship of all the participants. Unlike the typical artist's book, which usually functions as an extension of an individual artist's practice, Activity instead represents a collective artistic experience, effectively rethinking the artist's book today. This publication is part of the series of artists' projects edited by Christoph Keller.

Some Scenic Views - the title of Philipp Lachenmann's first monograph - reflects his work's camouflage strategy. Presenting 80 photographs of unspectacular views, the book reveals the process of hiding complex meaning behind a surface of normalcy. With a series of short texts, Russell Fergusson brings to the fore those hidden facts of historical, political, natural, or scientific nature. He thus reveals Lachenmann's photographs for what they truly are: conceptual artworks. This book inscribes itself in the German artist's body of works as a kind of picture novel rather than a monograph. The publication is part of the series of artists' projects edited by Christoph Keller. English and German text.

Some Scenic Views

At fourteen, Christoph Keller was diagnosed with a hereditary neuromuscular disorder called Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which should have confined him to a wheelchair by the age of twenty. Defying doctors advice to take it easy, he begins to appreciate every moment by living each day to its fullest. By embracing the memories of an imagination-filled childhood, Keller is able to accept his alcoholic father and ever-changing disability.
