Daniel M. Franks is an Australian development scholar and geologist, whose work has shaped global understanding of the relationship between minerals and sustainable development. He is a former United Nations official and current professor at The University of Queensland, where he is an Australian Research Council Future Fellow and serves as the inaugural Director of the Global Centre for Mineral Security. Franks is known for pioneering the concepts of mineral security, mineral poverty, and development minerals, and for his role in integrating extractive resource governance into international development frameworks.
