Literal Anecdotes 

Per tutta la vita Daniil Charms è stato considerato un autore per bambini - e lui i bambini non li sopportava. Mentre le sue fiabe bislacche popolavano libri e riviste illustrate dandogli qualcosa di cui campare, nel silenzio della sua stanza scriveva febbrilmente anche racconti per adulti, altrettanto immaginifici ma abitati da una malinconia lancinante, come di fiabe andate a male. Agli albori dell'urss questa sua fantasia disperata era però tollerabile solo se confinata dove era meno pericolosa, nella letteratura infantile. Erano gli adulti i veri bambini, da motivare e consolare con romanzi edificanti volti a glorificare l'ascesa del proletariato. Così, mentre fuori infuriava il realismo socialista, Daniil Charms scovava mondi impossibili tra le pieghe della realtà più prosaica: vecchie pettegole che si ribaltano dalla finestra, curiosi che si rompono l'orologio cercando di cogliere l'attimo, uomini seppelliti vivi che si rallegrano del bel funerale, uccelli dotati di denti (o forse no), sfide mortali a colpi di cetriolo, caterpillar col muso coperto di polvere. Un arsenale incredibile di storie che circolerà a lungo solo clandestinamente nei samizdat, libri illegali ricopiati a mano o battuti a macchina di nascosto. Paolo Nori, che ci ha rivelato la grandezza di questo pioniere della letteratura dell'assurdo, seleziona e monta insieme centinaia di frammenti narrativi, alternati a stralci dei diari, in cui Charms mette a nudo la sua tragica quotidianità. L'affresco di personaggi funambolici e animali incredibili si intarsia così con il minuto resoconto di una vita agra, vissuta ai margini della società letteraria fino a quando l'occhio fosco del Partito non si posa su questo strambo dissidente. L'Unione Sovietica cercò di cancellare Charms lasciandolo morire in un manicomio, ma per fortuna ha fallito: a noi, del mondo a venire, resteranno per sempre questi sfavillanti lampi di letteratura che lui chiamava "scemenze". Perché la scrittura, anziché stenografare la realtà, può reinventarla, così che ci appaia più vera.
