Vor annähernd 90 Jahren erschien erstmals der "Frick/Knöll" als Leitfaden für den Unterricht an den Königlich Preußischen Baugewerkschulen. Seither hat sich das damalige dünne Bändchen zum unverzichtbaren 1400seitigen zweibändigen Standardwerk in Lehre und Baupraxis für den Rohbau und den raumbildenden Innenausbau entwickelt, das seither in mehr als 550.000 Exemplaren aufgelegt wurde und damit Generationen von Architekten und Bauingenieuren auf dem Weg in den Beruf und im späteren Berufsleben ein zuverlässiger Begleiter war. Auch in der jetzigen Neuauflage steht im Vordergrund, die wesentlichen Zusammenhänge zwischen der Konstruktion und den vielen anderen Komplexen innerhalb des gesamten Baugefüges wie z.B. Standsicherheit, Materialverhalten und Verarbeitung, Bauphysik usw. verständlich zu machen. Daher wird der Vermittlung von Grundlagenwissen und der Aufzeigung absehbarer Entwicklungstendenzen der Vorzug gegeben vor einer rezeptartigen Aneinanderreihung einer Vielzahl von Konstruktionsmöglichkeiten. Teil 1 liegt nun in 31. Auflage vor, die durchgängig auf den aktuellsten Stand von Wissenschaft, Technik und Normung gebracht wurde, wie z.B. durch Einarbeitung der neuen Wärmeschutzverordnung. Das bedingte eine Erweiterung um 50 Druckseiten. Weitere wichtige Neuerungen sind: - Überblick über Regelwerke der nationalen und internationalen Normung - Zusammenfassung der wesentlichsten Bestimmungen für Bauprodukte des europäischen Marktes - Überarbeitung und Neuordnung des Abschnittes über Fundamente - Berücksichtigung der geänderten EU-Normung für Zemente - Erweiterung des Abschnitts Erhalt historischer Bausubstanz um den Fachwerkbau - Aufnahme von mehrschaligen modernen Wandkonstruktionen und von "Intelligenten" Fassaden - Einarbeitung Weiterentwicklungen auf dem Gebiet der Betontechnologie, des Bauens mit Naturstein und mit Verbundblechen bei Außenwandbekleidungen.

With the temporary exhibition pavilion of the German Reich at the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona, Mies van der Rohe designed an architectural icon, but also a controversial monument of the way the Weimar Republic portrayed itself. The building is one of the most unusual success stories in the history of architecture: Despite its short existence, its reputation grew steadily in the following decades, thanks in part to magnificent photographs. It was soon considered the constructed manifesto of the Modern Age, and its spatial and "ideational" ambitions were called "a milestone of Modern architecture." This comprehensively, broadly researched book portrays the building?s complex history and its political entanglement?up to and including its reconstruction according to van der Rohe?s plans at the original site between 1983 and 1986.
