»Schuld« und »Sünde« sind klassische Begriffe der theologischen Anthropologie. Als Negativfolien zu den für die – insbesondere protestantische – Theologie zentralen Konzepten von Rechtfertigung und Versöhnung und darin gründender personaler Ganzheitlichkeit und selbstverantwortlichem Handeln, gelten sie weithin als unverzichtbar. Doch diese (vermeintlich) negative Anthropologie sieht sich seit der Aufklärung, seit Nietzsche und Freud starker Kritik ausgesetzt, die in den letzten Jahren zunehmend auch innerhalb der Theologie Resonanz findet. Unter dem Eindruck neuerer kulturanthropologischer Diskurse wird für eine Ablösung des moral- und akteursorientierten Schuld- (und Sünde-)Konzepts durch eine Phänomenologie der Scham plädiert, die psychologisch und soziologisch deutungsreicher sei – etwa im Blick auf mediale Beschämungspraktiken. Die Beiträge des vorliegenden Bandes führen diesen neuen Diskurs kontrovers weiter. This volume examines emotions and emotional well-being from a rich variety of theological, philosophical and scientific and therapeutic perspectives. He uses the general theory of relativity, quantum theory, thermodynamics and the theory of dynamic systems to reveal the fundamental categories of space, matter and time and to link these to the basic principles of a doctrine of creation which is open to a dialog between science and theology. German description: Anhand der drei Kategorien Raum, Materie und Zeit entwickelt Dirk Evers Grundfragen naturwissenschaftlichen Denkens, die er auf ihre Geschichte und den wissenschaftsphilosophischen Diskurs bezieht. Er analysiert die Relativitatstheorie, die Quantentheorie und die Thermodynamik jeweils in ihren Grundzugen und untersucht die damit verbundenen kosmologischen Modelle und Einsichten (z. B. Urknallmodell, inflationarer Urknall, Schicksal des Universums). Auf theologischer Ebene halt er die eschatologische Differenz von Gott und Schopfung fest und stellt die Orientierungsleistung des Glaubens in der Schopfung heraus. Dabei erklart Dirk Evers beispielsweise den 'Ort' Gottes im 'Himmel', setzt Gott in Beziehung zur materiellen Wirklichkeit und versteht die Welt als fortgesetzte Schopfung. Die gewonnenen Einsichten werden so analysiert, dass theologische Aussagen der christlichen Schopfungslehre darauf bezogen werden konnen. Zudem wird dieses Vorgehen auch methodisch in Bezug auf das Gesprach zwischen Naturwissenschaften und Theologie reflektiert. Dirk Evers legt Wert auf eine klarende historische Betrachtung und klare Unterscheidung oft ungenau bestimmter Begriffe.

This book explores the concept of Life from a range of perspectives. Divided into three parts, it first examines the concept of Life from physics to biology. It then presents insights on the concept from the perspectives of philosophy, theology, and ethics. The book concludes with chapters on the hermeneutics of Life, and pays special attention to the Biosemiotics approach to the concept. The question ‘What is Life?’ has been deliberated by the greatest minds throughout human history. Life as we know it is not a substance or fundamental property, but a complex process. It is not an easy task to develop an unequivocal approach towards Life combining scientific, semiotic, philosophical, theological, and ethical perspectives.
