Douglas Laidlaw Cairns is a British classicist, Professor of Classics at The University of Edinburgh, and the incumbent Chair of the Classical Association and Edinburgh University Press. He specialises in the study of Greek society, ethics, literature, especially the emotions, and the ways in which these are reflected in Greek epic, tragedy, and lyric poetry.
