Eduard von Keyserling (1855 -1918) zählt zu den bedeutendsten deutschen Schriftstellern der vorletzten Jahrhundertwende. Er ist ein wunderbarer Erzähler, und die Naturschilderungen seiner letzten Werke, die er als schon Erblindeter schrieb (bzw. diktierte), erinnern an impressionistische Malerei. "Wellen" ist wohl sein bekanntester Roman und wurde zuletzt 2005 verfilmt. Lovis Corinth schuf ein faszinierendes Portät von ihm, das in der Münchener Neuen Pinakothek zu sehen ist.

Eduard von Keyserlings "Schlossgeschichte" Beate und Mareile erschien erstmals 1903.Günther von Tarniff, ein leichtlebiger, selbstverliebter junger Graf, heiratet die adelige Jugendfreundin Beate, entschlossen "ein glückliches Familienleben zu führen". Doch dann kommt es zur Wiederbegegnung mit der Tochter des Gutsverwalters und zweiten Jugendfreundin, der Sängerin Mareile... So trivial könnte die Geschichte sein, würde nicht Keyserling sie erzählen und daraus große Literatur machen.

Eduard von Keyserlings Erzählung "Am Südhang" erschien erstmals 1911 (nicht 1914, wie auch zu lesen ist). Ein Beitrag der "Zeit" wertet sie als sein "Meisterwerk".

Eduard von Keyserlings (1855 - 1918) Erzählung "Seine Liebeserfahrung" erschien 1906. Wie für sein Spätwerk typisch, zeichnet er darin leicht ironisierend und resignativ, aber in großer Stimmungsdichte die moribunde Adelsgesellschaft des Fin de siècle.
