Ernst Jünger(Heidelberg, 1895-Wilflingen, 1998) vivió sus años escolares en Hannover, y en 1913, tras huir del hogar familiar, se alistó en la Legión extranjera, pero a las seis semanas tuvo que abandonarla debido a la intervención paterna. Voluntario en la primera guerra mundial, fue herido varias veces y obtuvo la condecoración Pour le Mérite.
