In wellicht Timmermans‘ bekendste roman geniet Pallieter in een paradijselijk landschap als een nieuwe Adam gulzig van het leven. Op een dag ontmoet hij zijn Eva, die Marieke blijkt te heten. Zij houden van elkaar en hun liefde wordt bezegeld met een drieling. Wanneer hun ongerepte vallei aan de industrie en het grote geld wordt geofferd, trekt Pallieter met zijn gezin de wijde wereld in. De roman leest als een ode aan de natuur en het eenvoudige leven. De Vlaming Felix Timmermans (1886 –1947) was schrijver en dichter. Hij was autodidact en schreef toneelstukken, romans met een historisch karakter, novellen, religieus getinte werken, en gedichten. Naast schrijven schilderde en tekende Timmermans ook. Hij illustreerde zijn eigen boeken. Ook ontwierp hij de boekbanden van de meeste van zijn boeken. In zijn tijd was hij een van Vlaanderens meest vertaalde en productieve auteurs. Zijn bekendste werk is zijn roman Pallieter (1916).

In de roman Boerenpsalm (1935) is het levensverhaal van een boer. Deze boer vertelt over zijn verbondenheid met de aarde waarop hij werkt, zijn relatie met God en het moeten accepteren van het lot dat hem en zijn gezin beschoren is. In poëtische taal bezingt de verteller van bescheiden afkomst zijn liefde voor het leven. Deze originele boerenroman is een loflied op het boerenleven.
