​Das Handbuch Wohnsoziologie will den aktuellen Wissensstand zum Thema Wohnen übersichtsartig wiedergeben. Dabei soll die Entwicklung des Themas mit Bezug auf den deutschen Wohnungsmarkt, Wohnungsbau und Stadtentwicklung dargestellt werden und wichtige Herausforderungen für das Wohnen der Zukunft identifiziert werden. Das Handbuch soll eine Lücke schließen, die sich seit der letzten Publikation von Häußermann und Siebel aus dem Jahr 1991 ergeben hat. Obwohl soziologisch ausgerichtet, ist die Publikation interdisziplinär ausgerichtet und wird von Autor/innen aus unterschiedlichen Disziplinen getragen.

Handbuch Wohnsoziologie

Das Handbuch bietet einen umfassenden Überblick zur Stadtsoziologie. Zunächst werden die wesentlichen Ausgangspunkte dargestellt (von Weber über Simmel zu Giddens). Anschließend werden die wesentlichen konzeptionellen Debatten nachgezeichnet: Von den "Mega-Cities" zur "Eigenlogik von Städten", um darauf folgend die Themenfelder der Stadtsoziologie - von "Gentrification" bis zu den "Schrumpfenden Städten" - zu analysieren.

"MEDIACITY: Situations, Practices and Encounters" investigates how the social settings and spaces of the city are created, experienced and practiced through the use and presence of new media. It takes the position that new media enables different settings, practices and behaviours to occur in urban space. Contributions from academics, practitioners and activists from disciplines such as Media Studies, Architecture, Urban Studies, Cultural and Urban Geography and Sociology present a critical reflection on the processes, methods and impacts of technologies in urban space.The MEDIACITY Project seeks to facilitate the transfer of outstanding international knowledge at the Bauhaus-University Weimar in order to intensify research within the interdisciplinary fields of Media Studies, Architecture and Urban Sociology. It aims to research solutions for urban development in a knowledge based society.
