" Vous voyez un pickpocket dans le métro de New York en train de voler dans le sac d'une femme. Il veut juste de l'argent mais il tire un papier où sont inscrits je ne sais quels secrets militaires convoités par un réseau d'espionnage communiste. Pour la version allemande on a mis n'importe quelle formule pharmacologique. Deux policiers en civil, qui filent la fille, ne savent trop à quoi s'en tenir... L'homme s'est approché de la femme et il a ouvert prudemment le sac à main. La femme a réagi à l'approche du voleur comme à une proximité érotique, elle renverse la tête et ouvre les lèvres. Les mains du voleur accomplissent tout autre chose que ce que son visage exprime. L'expression de son visage cache qu'il enfreint les codes en s'approchant aussi près d'une femme, mais dans l'affluence du métro ils sont les seuls à s'en rendre compte. La compression du montage est telle, on dirait que les mains de l'homme ont provoqué l'ouverture des lèvres de la femme, ou que l'ouverture du sac renchérit sur celle des lèvres, c'est la reconduction d'un thème comme en musique. En ce sens, la femme aurait ouvert son sac avec ses lèvres. je suis en train d'insister sur le fait qu'il se passe plus qu'il n'y paraît au vu de l'intrigue principale. Cette scène vise à la polysémie - bien sûr elle traite de la complicité de la victime, un thème moralement épineux. Mais plus fondamentalement le montage cinématographique nous induit à douter de l'incidence des personnages sur l'action. Il en va ainsi des célèbres scènes de poursuite - le spectateur reçoit une vision alternée de A et de B - il peut très facilement arriver que B semble tout à coup poursuivre A, ce dont les slapsticks ont joué. La construction sujet-objet n'est pas si sûre que dans la langue des mots la question : qui induit quoi ? Que l'objet puisse en même temps être sujet, cela me semble bien plus important que de dire que l'objet deviendra sujet, que de victime il deviendra coupable. [...] "
