Luciana Radut-Gaghi is Habilitated Associated Professor at the CY Cergy Paris Université, France. She has directed the Lemel (l'Europe dans les médias en ligne) research network since 2014. Alida Maria Silletti is Associate professor of French Language and Translation in the Department of Political Science at the University of Bari Aldo Moro, Italy. Hedwig Wagner holds a professorship in European Media Studies at the Europa-Universitaet Flensburg, Germany and is on the board of the Interdisciplinary Centre for European Studies (ICES).

In dieser Studie wird die Figur der Prostituierten, als Film- wie auch als Diskursfigur, in den seit den 1990er Jahren virulent gewordenen Verhandlungsfeldern von Wissen und Sexualität neu verortet. In einer Neubestimmung des Begriffspaars 'Gender/Medien' sowie in Abkehr vom Devianzansatz, der die feministische Prostitutionsforschung lange beherrschte, wird 'Gender als Medium' aufgefasst. Die materialreichen Spielfilmanalysen (»Die flambierte Frau«, »Liebe und Anarchie«, »Anna Christie«, »Tokio Dekadenz«) sind zugleich ein analytischer Nachgang auf Forschungen der Systemtheorie, der feministischen Diskurse, der psychoanalytisch orientierten Kulturwissenschaft sowie der kulturwissenschaftlichen Medientheorie und konfrontieren diese aus einer Perspektive der medienwissenschaftlichen Gender Studies.

Der »moderne Film« ist etwa 60 Jahre alt - diese Epoche wurde wissenschaftlich durch Lorenz Engell (*1959), der in seinen film- und fernsehtheoretischen Schriften den Begriff der Filmphilosophie wesentlich geprägt hat, federführend begleitet. Als Festschrift zu seinem 60. Geburtstag analysieren und interpretieren die Beiträge dieses Bandes ebenso viele Filme und Serien aus den Jahren 1959-2018. Dabei stellen international renommierte Autor_innen ihre eigenen Perspektiven ins Zentrum und zeigen die fragmentarische Vielfalt audiovisueller Ästhetik, die sich über den Film auch mit dem Fernsehen, dem Video und der Malerei verbindet.
