En particular la existencia de filósofos, Kierkegaard, Heidegger, Jaspers, pero también el ajetreo fenomenológico y otros filósofos y escritores. En esto, según la interpretación de Camus, el hombre se asemeja a la figura mitológica de Sísifo, cuyas acciones aparecen como autorrealización en su extrema y persistente insensatez. Ésta es la alegría oculta de Sísifo. Su destino es suyo. Su roca es su negocio. El absurdo dice que sí, y su esfuerzo no se detiene cuando hay una habilidad personal. Entonces no hay un destino primordial, o al menos solo uno que él encuentra ominoso y despreciable.
