The study was carried out to gain a deeper insight into the backgrounds and motives of these women, how arrangements were made, their positive and negative experiences, their return to Thailand and reintegration into their villages. Simultaneously, it offers some insights into the workings of international trafficking networks.

Biometrics can be defined as the automated means of identifying an individual through the measurement of distinguishing physiological or behavioural traits. Biometric scanning is the process whereby biometric measurements are collected and enrolled in a computer system with the purpose of using the measurements to either verify or search for a person's identity. This particular publication focuses on the impact of the rapid expansion in the use of biometric systems in migration management on the rights of individuals; it seeks to highlight legal issues for consideration in implementing such systems, taking as the starting point that security interests of the state and the rights of the individual are not, and should not be, mutually exclusive. The book is divided into three chapters: Part 1: Understanding biometrics; Part 2: Biometrics, migration and security and Part 3: Human rights, implications of the use of biometrics in migration management.

This report focuses on the possible future scenarios for climate change, natural disasters and migration and development, looking to increase awareness and find answers to the challenges that lie ahead. It states that even though it is defined as a growing crisis, the consequences of climate change for human population are unclear and unpredictable. The study points out that scientific basis for climate change is increasingly well established, and confirms that current predictions as to the "carrying capacity" in large parts of the world will be compromised by climate change.

The second volume in IOM's series on migrant deaths, Fatal Journeys has two main objectives. First, it provides an update of global trends in migrant fatalities since 2014. Data on the number and profile of dead and missing migrants are presented for different regions of the world, drawing upon the data collected through IOM's Missing Migrants Project. Second, the report examines the challenges facing families and authorities seeking to identify and trace missing migrants. The study compares practices in different parts of the world, and identifies a number of innovative measures that could potentially be replicated elsewhere.

Le Rapport présente les informations disponibles sur les représentations et les attitudes du public au sujet de la migration. Il analyse la manière dont celles-ci sont façonnées, et comment elles peuvent influer sur, ou être influencées par, l’action des pouvoirs publics et les médias. Il étudie en outre le rôle que jouent ces derniers lorsqu’ils relaient l’opinion, rendent compte des tendances migratoires et orientent le discours sur la migration, et livre des exemples de bonnes pratiques suivies par les pouvoirs publics, la société civile et les médias pour communiquer une image positive et nuancée des migrants. Enfin, il propose divers moyens pour mieux communiquer sur la migration, de façon à faciliter la compréhension et la reconnaissance des avantages de celle-ci, à encourager la formulation de politiques davantage fondées sur des données probantes, et à s’assurer une meilleure participation des migrants eux mêmes.

This publication, the seventh report in IOM's World Migration Report (WMR) series, explores the positive and negative effects of migration on individual well-being. It is published amidst a growing debate on how the benefits of migration can best be harnessed for development. This report contributes to the global debate on migration and development in three ways, specifically, by presenting a more holistic picture of development, by assessing the well-being of migrants worldwide for the first time using findings of the Gallup World Poll conducted in more than 150 countries, and by analysing how migration outcomes differ depending on the origin and destination of migrants.

While many people leave their homes as a result of conflict or poverty, others move under conditions of peace, political stability and development. A large share of international migrants originated from rural areas. Examining the complex interlinkages of migration with agriculture, This report examines the existing literature and provides evidence from both developed and developing countries, focusing on why people from rural areas decide to migrate. It explores the drivers of migration, both international and internal, and aims to deepen our understanding of the interlinkages with agriculture, food security and rural development. This report assesses the impact of migration on countries of origin and destination, focusing on rural areas and the agricultural sector. It discusses how agricultural and social policies can address challenges and capitalize on opportunities created by migration trends.
