Lee durch Zufall die gut versteckten Aufzeichnungen ihres verstorbenen Großvaters in die Hände fallen, entschließt sie sich, nicht nur ihrer Familiengeschichte nachzuspüren, sondern auch die Insel zu erkunden, auf der ihre Großeltern den Großteil ihres Lebens verbrachten: Taiwan. Im Bestreben, diese zwischen tektonischen Platten und gegensätzlichen Kulturen gelegene Insel der Extreme zu erforschen, legt Jessica J. Und die passionierte Schwimmerin beschließt: 52 der über 3000 im Brandenburger Land versteckten Gewässer wird sie im Laufe eines Jahres testen – ganz egal, ob die Augusthitze über dem Nymphensee brütet oder die klirrende Kälte den Schlachtensee gefrieren lässt ... Mit zarter Lakonie erzählt "Mein Jahr im Wasser" von Verlorenheit und Fremdheit, von frühen Verletzungen und kindlichen Ängsten, aber auch von seidig-klarem Wasser auf der Haut und der meditativen Wirkung, die das Schwimmen in offenen Gewässern haben kann.
