This volume presents the preliminary results of the work carried out by the interdisciplinary cultural techniques research lab at the University of Erfurt. Taking up an impulse from media studies, its contributions examine —from a variety of disciplinary perspectives—the interplay between the formative processes of knowledge and action outlined within the conceptual framework of cultural techniques. Case studies in the fields of history, literary (and media) studies, and the history of science reconstruct seemingly fundamental demarcations such as nature and culture, the human and the nonhuman, and materiality and the symbolical order as the result of concrete practices and operations. These studies reveal that particularly basic operations of spatialization form the very conditions that determine emergence within any cultural order. Ranging from manual and philological "paper work" to practices of opening up and closing off spaces and collective techniques of assembly, these case studies replace the grand narratives of cultural history focusing on micrological examinations of specific constellations between human and nonhuman actors.

Raum und Literatur sind untrennbar verbunden: Nicht nur gibt es Räume in der Literatur, sondern Literatur macht Raum, konstruiert Raum, ist selbst Raum. Im Gegensatz zu den bisher vorliegenden transdisziplinären Versuchen wissenschaftlicher Erfassung von Räumlichkeit geht das Handbuch Literatur & Raum synoptisch wie systematisch von spezifisch literaturwissenschaftlichen Überlegungen zur Räumlichkeit als seinem disziplinären Ausgangspunkt aus, um diese sodann hinsichtlich der spezifisch literarischen Leitkategorien 'Reflexivität' und 'Produktivität' zu erproben: Systematisch wird der Zusammenhang von Literatur und Raum dabei anhand von Modellen bzw. Theorien dargestellt, analytisch anhand von Einzelparadigmen aus unterschiedlichen Literaturen sowie Kulturen von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart erkundet und erprobt. Auf diese Weise leistet das Handbuch nicht nur erstmalig eine umfassend systematische Darstellung des Problemfeldes aus literaturwissenschaftlicher Sicht, sondern es liefert zudem eine Bestandsaufnahme literarischer Auseinandersetzung mit den verschiedenen Aspekten von Räumlichkeit und darüber hinaus auch mit den in Texten konkret modellierten Räumen aus historischer Perspektive.

Les contributions réunies dans ce volume considèrent les notions de "traduction" et de "transmission" à partir de l'intraduisible ou de la perturbation de la transmission. Elles considèrent l'intraduisible comme un point de bascule permettant d'analyser les objets littéraires. culturels et médiatiques - non comme une limite de la traduction ou de la communication interculturelle. Les auteurs cherchent à localiser les zones de résistance à partir desquelles la traduction redéfinit sans cesse ses conditions de possibilités linguistiques, médiatiques et culturelles. Plus précisément, il s'agit de mettre l'accent sur un point resté aveugle dans les Translation Studies ainsi que dans les prolongements du côté des médias et de la culture en s'affrontant explicitement aux perturbations constructives et constitutives de la traduction et de la transmission. Se pourrait-il que la perturbation soit l'élément commun permettant de relier les traductions langagières, littéraires et les transmissions culturelles et médiatiques ? Serait-ce à partir de l'interruption qu'il faut esquisser un espace de tensions structurelles, une zone intermédiaire de la traduction ?
