Este volume inclui dois textos de Karl Marx - o primeiro é um dos seus escritos menos conhecidos, redigido em 1845, e, em rigor, uma crítica à obra de Friedrich List, 'O Sistema Nacional da Economia Política' (1841). O segundo texto é o discurso proferido por Marx em Janeiro de 1848, 'Discurso Sobre a Questão do Comércio Livre'. Aqui, Marx procura desmontar o argumento de acordo com o qual o comércio livre, na medida em que aumentaria os salários e diminuiria o preço do pão, beneficiaria o partido dos trabalhadores. No início do século XXI, é digno de atenção o regresso a um Marx que censura o proteccionismo com tanto ou maior empenho do que o que empresta à crítica do comércio livre.

Contemporary philosophical research interconnects classical domains of philosophy, the arts, literature and social sciences. This collection of essays explores the operational role of experimentation, dissidence and heterogeneity in this process. This book celebrates the bicentenary of Schleiermacher’s famous Berlin conference "On the Different Methods of Translating" (1813). It is the product of an international Call for Papers that welcomed scholars from many international universities, inviting them to discuss and illuminate the theoretical and practical reception of a text that is not only arguably canonical for the history and theory of translation, but which has moreover never ceased to be present both in theoretical and applied Translation Studies and remains a mandatory part of translator training. A further reason for initiating this project was the fact that the German philosopher and theologian Friedrich Schleiermacher, though often cited in Translation Studies up to the present day, was never studied in terms of his real impact on different domains of translation, literature and culture.
