While research in right-wing populism has recently been blossoming, a systematic study of the intersection of right-wing populism and gender is still missing, even though gender issues are ubiquitous in discourses of the radical right ranging from »ethnosexism« against immigrants, to »anti-genderism.« This volume shows that the intersectionality of gender, race and class is constitutional for radical right discourse. From different European perspectives, the contributions investigate the ways in which gender is used as a meta-language, strategic tool and »affective bridge« for ordering and hierarchizing political objectives in the discourse of the diverse actors of the »right-wing complex.«

Across the globe, a growing number of social movements, such as demonstrations in support of equal civil status or reproductive freedom and against sexualized violence, show that women's and gender rights are highly contested. Recientemente, candidatos de la extrema derecha como Donald Trump en EE.UU. y Jair Bolsonaro en Brasil fueron elegidos sin tener en cuenta los escándalos que habían causado con sus comentarios abiertamente sexistas y racistas. Asimismo, al éxito electoral de ambos presidentes se opusieron amplias protestas feministas interseccinales. Así pues, el ensayo persigue un doble objetivo: en primer lugar, examinar la lógica y la función del género para el populismo (de derechas) con el fin de re-evaluar el fenómeno y ampliar las teorías hacia formas más complejas de descripciones y análisis. En segundo lugar el ensayo esboza los espacios y las prácticas de resistencia que también se basan en la política de género (o hacen la resistencia al anti-sexismo su punto de partida). Partiendo del supuesto de que el género no es un efecto secundario o un aspecto menor de la actual retórica populista de derechas, se argumenta que el género proporciona un escenario fundamental y central para las actuales luchas por la hegemonía cultural a las que se enfrentan actualmente numerosas sociedades a la luz de la precarización y las crises neoliberales. Así pues, un enfoque intersecciones de género en el populismo no sólo enriquecerá el campo de estudio, sino que puede proporcionar un parámetro innovador para una re-evaluación del fenómeno y la teorización sobre el populismo (de derechas).

The Caribbean has played a crucial geopolitical role in the Western pursuit of economic dominance, yet Eurocentric research usually treats the Caribbean as a peripheral region, consequently labelling the inhabitants as beings without agency. Examining asymmetrical relations of power in the Greater Caribbean in historical and contemporary perspectives, this volume explores the region’s history of resistance and subversion of oppressive structures against the backdrop of the Caribbean’s central role for the accumulation of wealth of European and North American actors and the respective dialectics of modernity/coloniality, through a variety of experiences inducing migration, transnational exchange and transculturation. Contributors approach the Caribbean as an empowered space of opposition and agency and focus on perspectives of the region as a place of entanglements with a long history of political and cultural practices of resistance to colonization, inequality, heteronomy, purity, invisibilization, and exploitation. An important contribution to the literature on agency and resistance in the Caribbean, this volume offers a new perspective on the region as a geopolitically, economically and culturally crucial space, and it will interest researchers in the fields of Caribbean politics, literature and heritage, colonialism, entangled histories, global studies perspectives, ethnicity, gender, and migration.
