Siamo abituati a pensare ai colori come a entità astratte, eteree e immutate, codificate una volta per tutte in manuali e campionari. Non è così. Gli antichi greci per esempio non riconoscevano al blu una sua precisa identità cromatica, tant’è che il mare nell’Iliade è «colore del vino» e non sembra in nulla uguale al cielo.
