De forensische geestelijke gezondheidszorg is een boeiend en tegelijk complex domein in volle ontwikkeling. Zij bevindt zich op het kruispunt van de geestelijke gezondheidszorg en het recht. Uiteenlopende vakspecialisten uit justitie en hulpverlening zijn hierbij op elkaar aangewezen. Voor een adequate samenwerking is kennis van de context waarin de verschillende actoren werken essentieel. Dit handboek bevat bijgevolg bijdragen van juristen, psychiaters, psychologen, orthopedagogen, criminologen, verpleegkundigen en maatschappelijk werkers.
