Poetry isn't just the dusty classical poems we all studied in school. It's sexy, raw, political, edgy, and alive. The first of its kind, EMBODIED marries the unique aspects of poetry with those of sequential art in this contemporary graphic poetry. EMBODIED features new work on the theme of gender, identity, and the body from twenty-one of America's premier, award-winning cis female, trans, non-binary poets and adapts them into sequential art stories drawn, colored, and lettered by top cis female, trans, and non-binary artists. With strong BIPOC and LGBTQ+ representation, this anthology emphasizes inclusivity and the amplification of marginalized identities at a time when those identities are most under siege. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit International Women's Health Coalition.

Poetry. SISYPHUS MY LOVE: (TO RECORD A DREAM IN A BATHTUB) is a multimedia series poem containing threads that wind, unravel and accumulate. It combines prose poetry, lyric, myth, fake myth, journal reportage, a Poetry Blog kept online, and the beginnings of novellas that do not arrive anywhere and do not return. It contains memories of digital films and photographs taken on the Mediterranean seaboard in and around a long poem about trauma, love, death and desire--and the heroic myth of a modern Sisyphus through "his" point of view as he becomes a disembodied figure after a journey to the Land of the Dead following a heart attack. And it tells a heroine's myth, that of Sisyphus' unnamed "Wife." It is she who continues the tale while her husband, that perennial trickster figure who defies the gods, dies and comes back. Part travelogue, part epic poem, SISYPHUS MY LOVE (along with TO RECORD A DREAM IN A BATHTUB) is also the record of an American Road Trip that begins in a Northeast garden but concludes along a Mediterranean shoreline--from the beaches of Nice, France, to Pompeii (the "Villas" series) to the Greca-Magna sites around Sicily. This road-book like others before it repeatedly asks the question: What is a poem? And what is a book?

This first critical volume devoted to the full range of women's postmodern works includes some of the most respected writers and critics in the contemporary avant-garde. We Who Love to Be Astonished collects a powerful group of previously unpublished essays to fill a gap in the critical evaluation of women's contributions to postmodern experimental writing. Contributors include Alan Golding, Aldon Nielsen, and Rachel Blau DuPlessis; discussions include analyses of the work of Kathleen Fraser, Harryette Mullen, and Kathy Acker, among others. The editors take as their title a line from the work of Lyn Hejinian, one of the most respected of innovative women poets writing today. The volume is organized into four sections: the first two seek to identify, from two different angles, the ways women of different sociocultural backgrounds are exploring their relationships to their cultures' inherited traditions; the third section investigates the issue of visuality and the problems and challenges it creates; and the fourth section expands on the role of the body as material and performance. The collection will breach a once irreconcilable divide between those who theorize about women's writing and those who focus on formalist practice. By embracing "astonishment" as the site of formalist-feminist investigation, the editors seek to show how form configures feminist thought, and, likewise, how feminist thought informs words and letters on a page. One a lyric "confessional" poet and essayist, the other a jazz "spoken-word" performance artist, Adrienne Rich and Jayne Cortez were American feminist superheroes who produced extensive bodies of poetic work that reveal strangely overlapping visions, but in radically different voices and poetic styles. This book reconsiders the poetry activism of Cortez and Rich side-by-side, engaging poetics theory, cultural studies, and popular media in its literary analyses. A collection of eight integrated chapters by multiple poetry critics, as well as an artist-statement narrative by Wonder Woman sculptor Linda Stein, the book focuses upon the voice of bravado, the various calls for global justice, and Third Wave feminist "intersectional" critiques all embodied within these two women's poetic texts.
