Entre 1997 y 1999, una oleada de suicidios conmovió a la pequeña localidad petrolera de Las Heras, situada prácticamente en medio de la nada y perteneciente a la provincia argentina de Santa Cruz, en la Patagonia. La mayoría de los suicidas tenían alrededor de veinticinco años y pertenecían a familias modestas, oriundas de la zona. La periodista Leila Guerriero viajó a este desolado paraje patagónico, interrogó a los familiares y amigos de los suicidas, recorrió las mismas calles, siempre desiertas, y visitó cada rincón del pueblo.
