This series returns to the lands of Aurian, and is set in the distant past of the Magefolk, when even the land was a different shape, and the sea between the northlands and the south did not exist. This was the time when the Artefacts of Power were created, and lives were torn apart by the Mage Wars. In those days, the Magefolk were comprised of four disparate races: the human Wizards, masters of earth magic; the winged Skyfolk, who controlled the magic of air; the Leviathan, who ruled the powers of the watery realms; and the great Dragonfolk, whose province was the magic of fire. But while the four races of the Magefolk strove and vied amongst themselves to master the powers of magic both good and evil, a new race was emerging, who would come to play a vital part in these phenomenal events. As the story opens, the Xandim are little more than simple beasts. Enslaved by the fey and powerful Phaerie, masters of the Old Magic, they have been trapped in their horse forms for so long that they have forgotten they once held a human shape. Only one of the tribe knows better: the Windeye, the shaman of the Xandim. This is the story of his epic quest to free his people.

A neuf ans, Aurian vit seule avec sa mère. Quelques années plus tard, Aurian est devenue une Mage accomplie, mais son audace lui attire le courroux de l'Archimage Miathan. Pour lui échapper, elle doit redécouvrir l'histoire des Artefacts, ces quatre armes légendaires dont seuls quelques élus connaissaient jadis le secret. Débute alors pour Aurian un formidable périple, où elle ne pourra compter que sur elle-même et sur Forral, le protecteur de toujours...

Il existait jadis quatre Artefacts magiques d'une telle puissance que seuls les initiés des quatre grandes écoles de magie y avaient accès. Plusieurs millénaires se sont écoulés depuis cette époque et le savoir des mages s'est perdu, tout comme les Artefacts. Il ne reste plus guère aujourd'hui que quelques rares élus qui connaissent encore leur existence. Aurian fait partie de ceux-là. Elle a reforgé le Bâton de la Terre et mis en échec les projets de domination de l'archimage Miathan. Pourtant, le péril demeure, car Miathan possède le Chaudron de Réincarnation, et Aurian, enceinte, ne peut utiliser ses pouvoirs. Il lui faut compter sur les dons encore bruts d'Anvar, son amant, pour arriver au terme de leur fantastique périple...

À présent que son enfant est né, Aurian recouvre petit à petit ses pouvoirs de magicienne. Elle n'est pas débarrassée pour autant de la malédiction que fait peser sur elle l'archimage Miathan. Pour cela, Anvar et elle doivent poursuivre leur quête désespérée des anciens Artefacts. C'est à présent le dernier et le plus puissant d'entre eux, l'Epée de Feu, qu'il leur faut s'approprier avant que les ténèbres n'engloutissent le monde connu...

L'épée de feu

L'épreuve la plus dure de son existence attend encore Aurian : elle doit à présent affronter Eliseth, la Mage du Climat, qui s'est emparée de l'Epée de Feu et d'Anvar, l'homme qu'elle aime. Mais pour atteindre son ennemie, Aurian doit venir à bout de sa quête. qui la conduira à travers le temps jusqu'à l'ancienne cité des dragons, Dhiammara. Si elle veut triompher, elle devra en découvrir tous les secrets.
