IMOGEN CUNNINGHAM [1883-1976] a contribué de manière exceptionnelle aux progrès historiques de la photographie d'art. Surtout connue pour ses admirables gros plans de fleurs (" Blumen for men "), elle voua sa première passion à l'art du portrait, ce qui lui permit de survivre, financièrement, pendant la majeure partie de sa vie. Des années durant, elle a saisi des milliers d'individus, y compris un grand nombre de célébrités, d'écrivains, et d'artistes tels Herbert Hoover, Ansel Adams, Frida Kahlo, Man Ray, Gertrude Stein ou Cary Grant. Elle a également réalisé de grandes avancées dans la photographie de nus. Intelligente et audacieuse, son œuvre a participé à la reconnaissance de la photographie en tant que forme d'art.
