Vi è un profondo legame tra la “filosofia con il martello” di Friedrich Nietzsche e la produzione narrativa dello scrittore russo Fëdor Dostoevskij. La loro critica radicale dei valori tradizionali poteva condurre a una deriva nichilista; entrambi, però, rifiutano questo esito e ne confutano la necessità. La libertà autentica per i due autori non è infatti l’indifferenza del libero arbitrio infinito, bensì l’oltreumana accettazione del non-senso e della sofferenza inutile della vita. Non bisogna però intendere questo amor fati come una rassegnazione passiva. Esso è piuttosto l’aurora di un nuovo umanesimo: è il coraggio di assumere su di sé il peso del mondo, continuando a desiderare di essere e di volere “ancora una volta”. In questa dialettica della libertà, il negativo è una contraddizione che alimenta il movimento; e tuttavia non è necessario attraversare quel negativo per affermare il positivo, né è assicurata poi la vittoria di quest’ultimo. L’oltreuomo nietzscheano ha dunque i tratti della figura del “santo peccatore” di Dostoevskij: un uomo in grado di vivere in contatto profondo con l’esperienza, il sentire e la vita, dalla vetta all’abisso.
