Une femme puissante

"Elle trouvait excessives les louanges dont on s'est mis à couvrir sa cuisine. Elle comprenait les sensations puisqu'elle s'appliquait à les faire naître, n'est-ce pas, et que leur manifestation sur la figure des convives l'enchantait, c'est tout de même bien ce à quoi elle s'évertuait jour après jour, depuis tant d'années, presque sans repos. Mais les mots pour décrire tout cela lui paraissaient indécents". Le narrateur raconte la vie et la carrière de la Cheffe, une cuisinière qui a connu une période de gloire, dont il a longtemps été l'assistant - et l'amoureux sans retour. Au centre du récit, la cuisine est vécue comme une aventure spirituelle. Non que le plaisir et le corps en soient absents, au contraire : ils sont les instruments d'un voyage vers un au-delà - la Cheffe allant toujours plus loin dans sa quête d'épure. Les phrases de Marie NDiaye se déploient lentement, comme pour envelopper le lecteur avec un charme constricteur. Les replis de l'âme de chaque personnage sont explorés avec une détermination calme dans la volonté de dissoudre la pénombre des êtres. Ladivine nous entraîne dans le flux d'un récit ample et teinté de fantastique. Comme dans Trois femmes puissantes, Marie NDiaye déploie son écriture fluide et élégante, riche d'une infinité de ressources qui s'offrent au lecteur avec une fascinante simplicité.

Herman, een zelfingenomen Parijse leraar, brengt al tien jaar lang de zomervakantie door op het Franse platteland. De opwelling om dit keer de terugreis naar Parijs enkele dagen uit te stellen heeft grote gevolgen, want vlak voor het vertrek verdwijnen zijn vrouw en kind spoorloos. Dan slaat het weer abrupt om.
