Max Brod, a successful novelist, was a boyhood companion of Kafka's and remained closely tied to him until Kafka's death in 1924. He was undoubtedly the one man whom Kafka trusted more than any other, and it is to Brod, as his literary executor and editor, that we are indebted for rescuing and bringing to light Kafka's work. The Diaries Of Franz Kafka

A 1926 novel by Franz Kafka. In it a protagonist known only as "K." arrives in a village and struggles to gain access to the mysterious authorities who govern it from a castle. Kafka died before he could finish the work, but suggested it would end with K. dying in the village, the castle notifying him on his death bed that his "legal claim to live in the village was not valid, yet, taking certain auxiliary circumstances into account, he was permitted to live and work there." Dark and at times surreal, The Castle is often understood to be about alienation, unresponsive bureaucracy, the frustration of trying to conduct business with non-transparent, seemingly arbitrary controlling systems, and the futile pursuit of an unobtainable goal.

America (Amerika en aleman original, tambien conocida como The Stoker, El fogonero, o El desaparecido) es una novela del escritor Franz Kafka, iniciada en 1911 que dejo inconclusa en 1912 y publicada postumamente en 1927. Desde 1982 se publica con el titulo original que Kafka penso: "El desaparecido." Fue Max Brod quien cambio dicho titulo por el de "America." Esta revision y los estudios posteriores, determinaron una nueva distribucion de la novela, sobre todo de los fragmentos, tal y como se decidio publicar en la edicion alemana definitiva de Fischer. La historia describe el ir y venir de un muchacho de 16 anos, inmigrante de Europa, llamado Karl Rossman, en los Estados Unidos, quien fue forzado a ir a Nueva York por sus padres porque habia sido seducido por la criada que despues tuvo un hijo suyo. Durante el viaje se hace amigo de un fogonero del barco.
