Nach Ansicht von Katholischer Kirche und Wissenschaft ist die herkömmliche Umgangsweise mit unerlaubter Einwanderung und unerlaubtem Aufenthalt angesichts der wachsenden Anzahl 'Illegaler' in Deutschland sowie fragwürdiger Effizienz und Auswirkungen traditionell angewendeter Kontrollinstrumentarien im Zeitalter der Globalisierung nicht mehr hinnehmbar. Des weiteren gilt es, Tabuisierung und Kriminalisierung des Themas ebenso zu überwinden, wie die polarisierende Debatte, deren Eckpfeiler charakterisiert werden können mit "Alle legalisieren" und "Alle abschieben". Die Beiträger liefern eine sorgfältige Bestandsaufnahme der Situation und initiieren einen Dialog zwischen Politikern und Praktikern.

One of the most important challenges concerning the future of the European Union is the demographic reproduction of the European population. Decreasing birth-rates and the retirement of the baby boomers will dramatically reduce the labour force in the EU, which will entail not only a lack of manpower but also lower contributions to European social systems. It seems clear that the EU will have to counterbalance this population decrease by immigration in the coming years. Migration Between the Middle East, North Africa and Europe takes this challenge as a point of departure for analysing the MENA region, in particular Morocco, Egypt and Turkey, as a possible source of future migration to the European Union. At the same time, it illustrates the uncertainties implied in such calculations, especially at a time of radical political changes, such as those brought about by the Arab Uprising.

Der Titel "Sprache als Form" indiziert eine zentrale Programmatik der wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten von Utz Maas, dem der vorliegende Band zum 60. Geburtstag gewidmet ist. Dieser Titel verweist zugleich auf die damit verbundenen Möglichkeiten der Übereinstimmung und des Dissenses. Der Band ist in vier Teile untergliedert. Unter der Überschrift "Sprachliche Form und Theorie" sind Beiträge versammelt, die Problemstellungen sprachwissenschaftlicher Theoriebildung behandeln. Teil II, "Formbildungen", enthält empiriebasierte Analysen sprachlicher Formbildungen und damit verbundener theoretischer Problemstellungen. Unter Teil III sind Beiträge gruppiert, die die "sprachliche Form im Medium der Schrift" zum Thema haben. Teil IV, "Ränder", schließlich nimmt solche Texte auf, die entsprechende Problemstellungen aus der Perspektive angrenzender Disziplinen behandeln.

They manage to live and work for years without a certified identity -- a phenomenon that challenges existing notions of political statehood and societal membership.
