La disparition de sa mère, le tête-à-tête avec son père, homme ambigu en affaires et en sentiments, son grand amour, Halva, une jeune Algérienne dont le souvenir ne l'a jamais quitté. Après avoir évoqué d'autres périodes troubles de l'Histoire, Michel Quint revient sur la guerre d'Algérie, et évoque les dissensions qui ont opposé les partisans de l'Algérie française à ceux de l'indépendance. Mais que serait ce récit sans la sensibilité et l'humanité dont l'auteur, toujours fidèle à ce devoir de mémoire qui avait tant ému dans Effroyables jardins, honore ces personnages ?

Premier roman noir de Michel Quint, l'auteur du très célèbre Effroyables Jardins, ce Testament inavouable est un petit joyau enfin republié. A Cordelys, minuscule village du nord de la France, on s'aime bien. Vu qu'on est tous parents. On vit ensemble volontiers. Les étrangers, c'est autre chose. lls auraient plutôt tendance à mourir.
