This volume brings together leading international experts in politics, discourse, memory, and culture to examine the complex entanglements of populism(s) and fascism(s) in political thought and cultural productions. The starting point is Argentine historian Federico Finchelstein’s assertion that the dynamics of transnational fascism and populist movements become clearer when viewed from the margins. Indeed, it was in Latin America – not Europe – where fascism and populism first intersected, with Argentine Peronism as the paradigmatic case. Building on this perspective, the volume explores Europe’s political and cultural legacy of fascism within the context of globalised mobilities, linking its totalitarian roots to the Latin American genealogies of populism(s). Adopting an interdisciplinary transnational and transhistorical approach, and cultural transfer as a method, it investigates cultural representations and practices that both reflect and challenge the divisive “Us” versus “Them” rhetoric central to fascist and populist discourses. Particular attention is given to how cultural artefacts and practices memorialise, remediate, and oppose narratives of fascism(s) and populism(s), with the assumption that (anti)fascist art and activism still move along transatlantic trajectories. This book will be of interest to researchers of fascism, populism, social and cultural history, European and Latin American history, literature, art, and activism.

This volume explores the fraught relationship between Futurism and the Sacred. Like many fin-de-siècle intellectuals, the Futurists were fascinated by various forms of esotericism such as theosophy and spiritualism and saw art as a privileged means to access states of being beyond the surface of the mundane world. At the same time, they viewed with suspicion organized religions as social institutions hindering modernization and ironically used their symbols. In Italy, the theorization of "Futurist Sacred Art" in the 1930s began a new period of dialogue between Futurism and the Catholic Church. The essays in the volume span the history of Futurism from 1909 to 1944 and consider its different configurations across different disciplines and geographical locations, from Polish and Spanish literature to Italian art and American music.

Trasmettere la memoria attraverso un genere d'intrattenimento quale il noir può sembrare paradossale. Invece è proprio il romanzo poliziesco, a partire dagli anni Settanta, a evidenziarne i nodi gordiani e i lati oscuri spesso rimossi dalla Storia ufficiale. Un'operazione complessa nel caso italiano, in cui il passato nazionale rimane dilaniato da fratture interne e la cultura di massa non sempre viene ritenuta il veicolo ideale per trasformare la memoria in strumento conoscitivo. Tali dilemmi vengono affrontati in un'ottica pluridisciplinare che spazia dalla semiotica alla psicologia e alla storia, passando da analisi testuali ad approcci intermediali. Mettendo a confronto le dimensioni temporali, spaziali e identitarie del passato con le forme della letteratura d'inchiesta, il volume indaga la presenza o meno di una base unitaria per la memoria italiana.
