Modern cryptology, which is the basis of information security techniques, started in the late 70's and developed in the 80's. As communication networks were spreading deep into society, the need for secure communication greatly promoted cryptographic research. The need for fast but secure cryptographic systems is growing bigger. Therefore, dedicated systems for cryptography are becoming a key issue for designers. With the spread of reconfigurable hardware such as FPGAs, hardware implementations of cryptographic algorithms become cost-effective. The focus of this book is on all aspects of embedded cryptographic hardware. Of special interest are contributions that describe new secure and fast hardware implementations and new efficient algorithms, methodologies and protocols for secure communications. This book is organised in two parts. The first part is dedicated to embedded hardware of cryptosystems while the second part focuses on new algorithms for cryptography, design methodologies and secure protocols.

Cryptography is a milliner science that was the key to the secret of ancient Rome and a fundamental piece in the Second World War. Today, it is a star in the computation world. Several operating systems, data base systems or simple filling systems provide the user with cryptographic functions that allow controlled data scrambling. Data mining consists of attempting to discover novel and useful knowledge from data, trying to find patterns among datasets that can help in intelligent decision making. However, reports of real-world case studies are not generally detailed in the literature, due to the fact that they are usually based on proprietary datasets, making it impossible to publish the results. This kind of situation makes hard to evaluate, in a precise way, the degree of effectiveness of data mining techniques in real-world applications. On the other hand, researchers of this field of expertise usually exploit public-domain datasets. This volume offers a wide spectrum of research work developed for data mining for real-world application. In the following, we give a brief introduction of the chapters that are included in this book.

Real-world engineering problems often require concurrent optimization of several design objectives, which are conflicting in cases. This type of optimization is generally called multi-objective or multi-criterion optimization. The area of research that applies evolutionary methodologies to multi-objective optimization is of special and growing interest. It brings a viable computational solution to many real-world problems. Generally, multi-objective engineering problems do not have a straightforward optimal design. These kinds of problems usually inspire several solutions of equal efficiency, which achieve different trade-offs. Decision makers’ preferences are normally used to select the most adequate design. Such preferences may be dictated before or after the optimization takes place. They may also be introduced interactively at different levels of the optimization process. Multi-objective optimization methods can be subdivided into classical and evolutionary. The classical methods usually aim at a single solution while the evolutionary methods provide a whole set of so-called Pareto-optimal solutions. Evolutionary Multi-Objective System Design: Theory and Applications provides a representation of the state-of-the-art in evolutionary multi-objective optimization research area and related new trends.
