Nicolas Wild

Nicolas Wild travels to Iran at the invitation of his friend Sophia, daughter of the well-known humanist Cyrus Yazdani, who had been assassinated in mysterious circumstances. Here, Wild discovers Zoroastrianism, one of the world's first monotheistic religions and an inspiration to numerous philosophers, among them Nietzsche. As he meets and talks to people in Iran, Wild becomes immersed in Cyrus's story. With Sophia's permission, he goes to Geneva to hear the testimonies of the assassination trial at the Criminal Court. Inspired by the life of a real-life activist, Wild's account reveals more than the story of one man's life or a court case. With characteristic humour - both unprejudiced and warm - he portrays a complex picture of a people and a culture.

Silent was Zarathustra

In 2005, Nicolas Wild, a wandering French writer, found a job and somewhere to live at the same time. The only problem was that the place was Kabul, in Afghanistan, a country left unstable after several destructive years of war. When the carefree young man arrived at a capital in crisis, his first mission was to write a comic book explaining the Afghan constitution to children. His second project was to work on a recruitment campaign for the Afghan army. Consequently, he became a privileged observer of the hesitant reconstruction of the country whilst leading the unusual life of a Western expat in Kabul. Gradually, he fell in love with the country and decided to extend his contract despite the risks of living in Afghanistan. Honest and perceptive, inquisitive and unsettling, this book casts an ironic yet affectionate look at the realities of a country that never strays far from the headlines.

Des collines perses de Yazd aux coulisses du tribunal criminel de Genève, Nicolas Wild dévoile les dessous de l'assassinat en 2006 de Cyrus Yazdani, figure emblématique de la culture zoroastrienne en Europe et en Iran. Le procès doit permettre d'y voir plus clair dans cette affaire de moeurs aux possibles résonances politiques. Le zoroastrisme, religion monothéiste née en Perse avant notre ère, inspira nombre de philosophes, en particulier Nietzsche au 19e siècle, lequel prêta sa plume à son prophète dans Ainsi parlait Zarathoustra. Si l'oeuvre de Nicolas Wild n'a pas les prétentions de celle du philosophe, elle dévoile toutefois avec précision les principes de cette religion et le délicat devenir de ses adeptes. Loin de tout ton doctoral, Ainsi se tut Zarathoustra se révèle un vrai thriller plein d'humour qui ravira notamment les lecteurs de ses précédents Kaboul Disco.

Kaboul Requiem

En 2005, Nicolas Wild, dessinateur de bande dessinée sans domicile fixe, trouve enfin un boulot dans ses cordes. Seulement c'est un peu loin : à Kaboul, dans un Afghanistan tout juste sorti de la guerre. Le voilà donc transporté dans une capitale en crise, chargé pour ses débuts de dessiner une adaptation BD de ta constitution afghane. Il devient dès lors, et pour plusieurs années, un observateur privilégié de la reconstruction hésitante et fragile du pays. Un regard ironique et pertinent sur les réalités de l'Afghanistan, pays au cœur de l'actualité.
